Hi All, sorry about this but I have a tyre pressure query and would appreciate any feedback from Cooper ST owners....
I have just had some ST's LT245/75/R16's put on the Pathy and was told to run the front at 50psi and the rear at 40psi on the road. As they are a 10 ply tyre I assume you need to run them at high pressures. I'm just concerned that at these pressures I may wear out the centre ribs, but then again if lower I may wear out the shoulder....
Can anyone please give me their thoughts re: the right pressures to be running with these tyres on and off road. (I don't think the kidneys will handle much more than 50psi though).ThanksMoggs ( Normanhurst NSW)

Moggs,
Being a 10 ply they would have a cold maximum inflation pressure of 80 psi, this will be stamped on the side.
40 is only half pressure, so thats probably around the mark for the road, maybe more.
There's plenty of others who run those pressures, I bet there on 10 ply's as
well.

Hi Moggs.
I have 31x10.5x15" on my Pajero. I run 40psi, tyres have done 20000k, rotated at 10000k. No problem with wear in centre or shoulder.
In sand I drop them to 18psi as they have a tendency to bury themselves if too high in pressure.

Vince

Hi guys,
Thanks for the responses. I think I will split the difference from what Brooky Tyres did and run 45psi front and back for a while and watch out for excessive wear. Maybe try 40psi as
well. CheersMoggs ( Normanhurst NSW)

Hi Moggs.
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the rule of the thumb is to run the tyre at a test pressure recommended by the tyre fitter when the tyre is cold. Then drive the vehicle on a run for about 10-15 kilometres so it can heat up and re-test the pressures.
If the tyre pressure increases buy about 4 psi, you have the right pressure. If the increase is more then the 4 psi, then the cold pressure is not enough and vice the versa. A bit of shagging about but once you have it.......
When you have the pressure worked out, remember to add about 2-3 more PSI to the tyre when you are loaded up for a long trip, this helps to keep the pressure variation down.
Highly scientific this hot air stuff, whatcha thinks bloke?

Moggs,
I have 265/75/16 10 ply STs on my #80 Cruiser and have just done 20,000kms in the Outback including 2,000 up the Canning.
On the CSR we ran on 18F 24R and everywhere else on 36 & 42.
So far there's no
sign of irregular wear.

Hi Moggs,
I have the 265/75/16 S/T's on my GU Patrol
I run 40psi all round around town.
I have put over 60,000k's on them so far and they are still looking pretty good.
I have religiously done the 10,000 k rotations and wear checks.
I think they will last me 85 - 95,000 k's on the results so far.
when i drive on outback dirt i drop to front 26 and rear 28, had no punctures and a softer ride
on sand 18 psi all roundCheers

G'day Moggs
Have 265/75R16 ST's on my 1999 hilux. From the tyre dealer the were at 45 psi. This gave me a very harsh ride. Dropped them back to 36 psi all round and a lot nicer on the kidneys. Have done 27000km's so far. Great road tyre. : )
Play tyres.

Moggs,
50 psi on the front set seems pretty high. The tyre will take it of course but it would be an awfully harsh ride unless the tyres are bearing a quite heavy load.
I'm with you. I reckon you'll wear the centre out prematurely if you run the fronts at 50.
My 2.2 (GST inc) cents worth.
Cheers

The dealer set my Cooper ST's on my hilux to 34 rear and 32 front on my 'lux. They are 30 X 9.5 X R15
20K and they seem to be traveling OK.
Cheers,
Glenn.
