Have noticed of late that Exploroz web pages as
well as many other webpages are running the Telstra Ultimate device advertisment.
Ever since they appeared on the scene, I find that pages take forever to load and seem to bog down and stop. It seems to be mainly when those ads are running.
I think they must have some horrible resource sapping rubbish in their coding or something.
As an example, this message has taken about ten minutes to type and appear in the message pane, prior to sending it.
Perhaps someone in the know may be able to have a look at it and see what the problem may be.
Thanks
Tony

Yeh, I've just found of late that this web site runs extremely slowly at times in Firefox to the point of everything freezing. Sometimes it takes 30 secs to load a page. It's ok on IE.
I mentioned this a while back but got moderated as it apparently wasn't to do with 4wds.

Has anyone bothered to email David or Michael at the office where they handle the technical issues? I'm sure that would be quicker than posting it on the
forum.
Just a thought.
Mck.

Hi Mick O,
Not having a go but, from my first statement, I did note that it was'nt "Only" on Exploroz, but many other sites as
well. Just seems to have happened after "that" ad appeared on the scene.
Perhaps Telstra is trying to make all our sysytems look slow to make their new Ultimate device seem Superfast. <(:-o)
As per my subject line I was wondering if it was only me, or whether other people had noticed it as
well.
Regards
Tony

No offence intended Tony just thought that these technical type issues are best dealt with by the experts direct. Haven't had much of an issue here just a bit slower in peak times like when all the kids arrive home from school and start "talking" to each other on facebook! Struth what ever happened to face to face communication.
Cheers Mick

This may be worth a try.
Strangely, this morning it seems to be functioning much more like normal.
Perhaps overnight is site updating time ??

I think the software behind websites outgrows the hardware in our homes.
I found my desktop PC was slowing down considerably so (for a whole lot of reasons) I bought a new laptop and everything is running fine.
The desktop was about 8 years old and just got tired.

Hi Gone Bush,
Yes I could expect that with an older system, but this one is "just" a year old.
Now I know in this day and age that may
well be considered "out of date", but GeeWhiz !

Hi guys,
I was only having trouble with this site and on this machine. No probs with IE on this site, only Firefox. Don't recall if there were Telstra ads running.
And my other slick machine running Win7 on an i5 proc worked fine on the EO site with Firefox.
I had to do a rebuild anyway on this P4 machine, so reinstalled clean XP Prof SP3, then installed Firefox, still the same problem.
Seems to be running fine at the moment, but occasionally, EO just seems to freeze.

EO has been slow for me for about a year or so. May have coincided with adding moving advertisements. My computer is very old.

Site is running really
well, fast as ever.
IE8, Window 7 and ADSL2.
Me thinks people are to quick to blame others for the issues in their own machines.
IE, Old machines and software, poor anti virus systems, machines full of junk in general.
They need updating and scanning regularly to keep them in good tune, just like your car.
Could also be issues with your ISP or even your modem/router.

firefox, win XP and ADSL 2 here as
well.
Machine is only just a year old, as per one of my earlier posts, has fully functional anti virus, is scanned daily, and I hope has not too much junk on it yet.
Only reaaly started having problems with the appearance of those ads.
Tried Timothy's suggestion and turned shockwave off. Seems to have done the trick. At least that dreaded ad does'nt appear to be visible and things are moving along quite reasonably now.

Have you updated your Flash player??
All these sites are running extensive Flash stuff these days and if your not up to date then issues can develop.
Its been discussed on here before, try and archive search and have a read.

Hi John (Vic),
Yeh Flash has been updating as and when they are availabe.
Yes that is the problem, all the sites running extensive flash stuff, as per the Telstra ad, which really is intensive and appeared to be causing the problem.

I use Firefox (3.6.12) on both a Windows XP Desktop and a Windows 7 Laptop and have not experienced any slow response times with ExplorOz or any other site whatsoever.
Firefox is faster and more user friendly than IE IMO. In fact I haven't even bothered experimenting with IE on the Windows 7 machine.
Bill.

It's probably something to do with Adobe Flash/Shockwave, my browsers (IE and Firefox) both do it occasionally when loading eBay and ExplorOz because of the flash ads. If you disable the adobe shockwave plugin everything's nice and fast again, just remember to re-enable it when you want to watch youtube.

For all those with Firefox you can get a plug in called AdBlock Plus, I haven't seen an Ad on a
forum for over a year. Page loading times are a hell of a lot faster as
well.

So, can anyone tell me if those Telstra ads are still playing?
They disappeared fro me when I turned off shockwave, but when I turned it back on I still can not see them.
Perhaps they have been pulled ?
Would be good to know, so I can gauge whether it was the turning off of shockwave that did the trick or not.
Thanks
