Bad luck Leroy, unfortunaty an all to often occurrence with a lot of 4cylinder turbo diesels. Sorry I can not help you.

Leroy, if you are talking about the cracks between the glow plug hole and the valve seat then it is a no brainer.

There is only ~8mm and it is a known fault for a crack to develop at this point. I had it on mine and the engine recondition place said ÿou have a cracked head". After pointing out the above I asked for a leak test. Head came up OK. Guy said ÿeah, we have to tell people the head is cracked!".

I would only be doing a leak test and getting the surface machined if test is OK.

Make sure they replace the head bolts - they are a one use item because of the tensioning method used.

I've had a recommendation for CW Engineering aka Top Torque Engines & Cylinder Heads in Nunawadding whom sounded fine on the phone when chatting to them. Has anyone used these guys?

TIA....Leroy

Don't go to the Shepparton Nissan dealer. Their mechanics are hopeless. The same thing happened to my father's 04 Patrol at 100k and they never repaired it properly and he was without his car for three months. After the 4th problem after they "fixed" it he traded it in on a Prado Kakadu and is very happy.

With all the carry on about 3.0l Patrols I was expecting to be inundated with repairer recommendations!! Maybe they are not failing as much as people think.

Either that or people aren't bothering to repair them to the previous specs, ie fitting completly different engines or just selling it off.
