Hi Gary
That is a really general question. What kind of terrain, conditions, weather do you need the swag for ? Are you budget restricted or are you after quality ? Are you chasing a single or double swag ? Do you want a swag that can be lifted into a small tent ?
There are all sorts of considerations to take into account. I am only trying to help so that you can get an answer that is going to really suit your needs.
Have a great weekend
Cheers

Gary
I have always used Candy Canvas Swags with really good results. They have a wide range and good pricing. As Marc has said - you can get a "general purpose swag", but if you are going to swag it Tassie, then use the same swag to sleep up North where Marc lives, you will find that the one swag will not suit both environments.
Just my thoughts
Craig

Hi Gary
Check out Sauls Swags. I think that their quality is right up there. Various designs, but like Marc said, a lot depends on your personal requirements.

Second that.
I use a Saul swag. Excellent swag, Also got blankets and mattress from Hal and am very satisfied with them.
The swag I have is a traditional canvas swag. It is not a mini tent. The choice of traditional or mini tent type swag can be a hard decision and individual circumstances and preferences differ. I already had a most satisfactory small tent and really wanted a swag so for me it was pretty easy. A mate I travel with prefers the mini tent type.
I have used the swag from minus 9 to plus 30 something. Below about minus 5 I have found a sleeping bag is better than blankets.
Handles rain very
well.

I just bought a new
Southern Cross Dome Swag after selling my
Southern Cross Enclosed Swag.
The
Southern Cross stuff is top of the line made in
Melbourne by a small family business.
Just a bloody good product that would beat everything else canvas wise I have seen on the Australian market.
No affiliation other than a satisfied customer.
Southern Cross Dome Swags
If you click on the swag link in the tabs at the top of the linked page above you will find their other swags displayed.

Would have to agree with John, pretty impressive quality & functionality. The single swag also comes with a two-up capacity feature for those unexpected encounters. Good all round/versitile product! Cheers

Gary,
There are a couple of important points to consider in a swag.
1. Quality of the foam mattress. Look for one with a high density foam "egg shell" style.
This will give you a high comfort level.
2. If getting a single swag, buy the XL (extra large) size which gives extra width.
3. A hoop style swag will provide the most flexible solution.
I'm sure there are many brand name swags that provide excellent quality and comfort.
We have a pair of Down Under Brumby XL swags that cost just under $400 each.
We have used them "stand alone" out in the open and have stayed dry in stormy conditions. When dry/hot conditions prevail, the canvas top can be folded down to allow cooler air to circulate and inimpeded star gazing with, or without the insect proof mesh screen.
We have used them as mattresses only in a tent, or as extra bedding at home on the lounge room floor.
A good quality swag is a lifetime investment if looked after and there is no compromise on a quality made unit for extreme comfort and durability.
Bill.

Hi Gary,
I made my own (got someone to stitch it up and supply the canvas) to my own specs. It was cheap and i got what I wanted.

Thanks for the replies and appreciated ................ I live basically 40 k from Fraser and do a lot of one nighters to the Island so I guess in a brief I require a swag thats
well ventilated and can take a good downpour as is the norm up here. Roomy also is a must.
Have done with the draggin a camper around (Canvas Hilton) and time to rough it up a little. Cheers

I think
mine is a Jolly Swagman and I bought it from BCF.I forget the price, it wasnt cheap but it is made locally and it is huge.
It has full length zips down each side and is made from top quality canvas.

We've got a Down Under
Dingo double swag. We tried it once but thought it was a bit too cosy for our liking!
Well it's comfortable and all just not much room to move in there.
I like the quality and would tend to say it would be perfect for one person, so agree that if I was shopping for a swag for myself only I'd consider an XL single or maybe even a double if space isn't an issue.

Hi Gary
My only advise for a good swag is quite simple - We invented them and it MUST BE AUSTRALIAN MADE.
You can get cheap imported swags made in the cheaper to make countries like India and China. The ones that I have seen from these countries have far inferior mattress and canvas - you only get what you pay for.
They are a lifetime investment so buy Quality Australian and will be set for life.
Cheers
Stephen

another option is the Jolly swag "Matilda" in the big foot version it's not a true dome swag with all the mesh but still is a pitching swag which is 520mm at the foot and 710mm high at the front. I am looking at one to use in our tent with ocasional "under the stars" use.
Hope this helps
regards
Trev.
