Haven't seen this on the forums.

Looks like there might have been a recent price restructure for LPG cylinder refills.
I have used Kwik Gas exchanges for a while as the price between a replacement and refill was not that great. Also handy for an out of date cylinder which they accept.
Today I was about to do the same and was told the refill for a 9kg cylinder had dropped from $26 to $17 and the price of an exchange had increased to $40.
It's now significant enough to go back to refills although they are not as convenient.

hi richard
as most of the exchange cylinders are filled at a depot somewhere and have to be tranported to the exchange sites
the transport/handing cost factor has probably been the cause of the increase

the actual refill costonsite should come down imho as we are exporting gas by the millions of tonnes and should be dirt cheap to all aussies
we have been getting ripped off in the past for lpg and auto gas
just my thoughts on it
cheers

I have never use exchange cylinders.

I own two 9kg and one 4.5kg cylinders with a built-in gauge. I know where they have been, how they have been treated and at a glance, how much gas is left in the bottles.

A Banner hardware shop close to work does 9kg refills for $20.

Would not even consider the "Swap & Go" type exchange cylinders.
At around $45 for a new cylinder with gauge thast lasts a minimum of 10 years, they are not at all expensive to buy and refill.

People who exchange their out of date cylinder for a "new one" are deluding themselves that they are getting value for money in my opinion.
