Hi Guys,
Have not done a post in ages but I thought I should share this.
Not going to go into great details but just want to acknowledge top marks for GME. My EPIRB malfunctioned late last week causing a activation and mass panic for my family once they got the call from Search and Rescue. The unit got send back to GME in
Sydney and I had a brand new EPIRB waiting at my door 3 days later.
It’s a timely reminder around holidays to make sure your contact list is updated and your EPIRB is working with regular testing.
Cheers

Hi Troll,
Just out of interest, what sort of EPIRB was it that malfunctoned. I have a GME PLB - MT401G I think.
Cheers

Thanks - did GME tell you what went wrong with it - I don't want my emergency contacts getting calls when I'm sitting at home.
Cheers

No they didn't but the lady at Search and Rescue told me that it happens from time to time although very rare and I guess like any electronic device things can go wrong. The strange thing was that my safety seal wasn’t even broken, there was no strobe or audible sound.
Gotto love electronics hey

I would have to agree but not 100%
In my case I was out on my boat I found it very strange that no one tried contacting me on the VHF. I was listening to the coast guard broadcasting messages about the weather and also other ships talking to them. If they contacted me it would have saved so much time and money. By the time we got back to the ramp the chopper was already crewed up to leave from Bundy. The Moroochy
water police was getting geared up and ready to leave.
I spoke to Search and Rescue about this and asked why did Coast Guard not try to contact me and the response was that it's because they are a volunteer Org and that they work with the Police. I would have been maybe 5-10kms from the Coast Guard
well within the VHF range.
In my opinion the authorities need to use what ever means they can to make contact with someone.

Can't argue with that.... I thought that's what they're supposed to do...
