Hi, I've been using this forum for some time to plan our trip to Australia (from Canada) and now we're here enjoying some pretty wet weather -- not what we expected ;-)

Up to now we haven't planned too much, just been travelling where we next wanted to go, but I realize that probably isn't going to work over the coming school holiday season. However I really don't know how hard it will be to find sites, and would appreciate some guidance. Since I'm in a motorhome I'm more or less stuck with places with reasonably good access, and want to be in the south to west of Sydney, or Victoria. Any suggestions as to how hard it will be to find places to stay, either caravan parks or free sites appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

Caravan parks site are going to be of a premium during school hol's but you can find ffee camp sites using books such as Camps 5. My advice is to pull up early if you find a suitable site.

Free camp in Sydney

Here is a link to a free site (for 72hrs) at Richmond which is to the west of Sydney at the foot of the Blue Mountains.

Dave

I should have added that in my experience if you want bush camp sites they become crowded after Christmas. So go for special bush sites early. January will be crowded in the bush and in parks.

Hi David,

The coast south of Sydney will be very busy and sites in caravan parks will be hard to get and expensive. You should fare a bit better if you go inland a bit but even so I would expect that even the more accessible free/bush camps will also be busy. Depends on the weather - the current weather is very unusual.

AS others have suggested get hold of Camps 5 or the new free camping book that is available from the EO shop to give yourself the best chance of getting something suitable.

Cheers,

Val
