I recently saw a post where someone said that in certain National Parks they are allowing the use of generators? They mentioned WA and in the NT? I have not seen any in NSW?

In WA I do recall generator/non generator specified
camping areas in the Karijini N.P. and also I think along the
Gibb River Road. And I also recall the same thing in the national
park abutting
Ningaloo Reef.

I don't know for sure but I suppose an E Mail to that particular state would soon settle any query & you have in writing if a parks
ranger tries to tell you different (if the answer was in the afirmative) Had
mine going in a National
park a year or so ago right near the camper & up comes a NP&WL
Ranger in his brand new V8 Diesel Toyota ute. He had it running and talking away & after he drove off my wife mentioned that he did nothing about the genny. We worked out he couldn't hear the Honda over the sound of his Toyota!!

We ran ours once in an NP (for the air conditioner on a hot afternoon). A couple of kangaroos came out from the shade to investigate this red box, then went back under the bush. Passing vehicles certainly made more noise.

There were generator areas in both
camp grounds at Purnululu, and at
Windjana Gorge. We chose the generator areas even though not using a genny at Windjana and at the
Kurrajong (northern)
camp ground at Purnululu and had a quieter night than those in the more crowded "quiet camp". The Walardi
camp ground (southern side) had the generator area combined with the tour bus
camp ground - not one to choose for quiet.
Some
camp grounds in
Kakadu had generator areas; Gunlom and Mardugal did. Merl near Ubirr had a genny area, but it was not suitable for bigger rigs. Times of use were specified (something like 9 am - 9 pm).
The majority of generator users had Hondas (either 1 or 2 kva) and they are very unobtrusive.
Most NPs we visited don't allow generators.
