Also is there anywhere worth camping between The Threeways and Camooweal?

oztours

If its free camping your after then Avon Downs has toilet facilities and appears to be popular.

From memory it's opposite the Police Station.

Spotted Tiger a couple of km's off the highway at Harts Range Police Station is worth staying at. Scenic location with solar hot water showers and toilets.

You should be able to comfortably cross the Plenty in two days.
It is well worth staying a few days at Gemtree. Apart from the fossicking trips you can buy there (for garnets and zircons), it is a great base to explore the very scenic Harts Ranges.
We find the Three Ways - Camooweal stretch is rather monotonous and usually do it in one day.

I agree with Wendy, 3 Ways to Camooweal is a bit ordinary. There is plenty to see on the Plenty, take 2-3 days. Wet weather not withstanding, a single vehicle is fine. Usual caveat for remote travel: carry sat phone and/or HF and/or someone knows when to expect your arrival.

Hi,

We did the Plenty in June, Reasonably good road with some roadworks in progress, but it varies with rain and the Donahue OK but not as consistant.

We camped on the Arthur Creek ( wide and dry) a couple hundred meters in on the left of the east side plenty of sites.Bush camping..

Easily do it in two days but a few places to stop and look at..... Harts Ranges, Box Hole Meteorite crater a few kms detour up the Bins track (well sign posted) Gem Tree , then bitumen to Alice.

We passed plenty of single vehicles.

Fuel is very expensive at Jervois Stn $1. 97 .9 pl deisel.

Have a good trip,

Mike (Vic).

Jervois is about halfway and you can camp on the river there (not great but it is a rest area.) or if adventurous you could go into Goyders Pillar which is a very spectacular place and a great camp but it is 90km in and 90km back out again.

The turnoff is on the Alice side of Jervois. Wouldn't recommend it in summer but worth a thought if going in winter.

We did it as a single vehicle last June. We didn't leave Boulia until 11am as we did the show at the Min Min centre, which we found really good.
Let our tyres down and travelled slowly, average 70kph and made Jervois to camp by 6pm. Got to Gemtree for lunch the next day, and then backtracked to the Binns track and followed it to Old Ambalindum station ( may not be correct spelling ) to camp.
Spoke to several people at Boulia who had destroyed tyres and shocks by travelling too fast with high pressures in their tyres.
Planned to do the return trip from Alice along the Plenty but rain had closed the road, so we had to come back the long way via Mount Isa.

Best of luck

Jon

Agree with happytravellers,

25 psi and max speed of 80kph, normally 70kph, August 2009 saw plenty of wrecked tyres, stopped to help a few with punctures (fractured carcasses), who were running highway pressures and travelling at highway speeds...

I did Alice to Mt Isa, stopped overnight at Jervois but did stick my head in at Gemtree for a spell. Turned north at Tobermorey
