Am currently planning our Big Lap for 2012, and have a quick question about the driving time between
Hells Gate Roadhouse, Robinson
River Crossing Camp and
Borroloola.
The stats in the Gulf Trek give driving time between
Hells Gate and Borrolooa at 4h8m. Google Maps however say its more like 8h19m, which is oddly close to double.
Does Google Maps have it right or is the trek data more reliable? I'm not that experienced with the trek data, so apologies if I'm missed something obvious.
Also, am I correct in that we'd need to get fuel in
Doomadgee first before heading north (as
Hells Gate no longer offer fuel)?
Thanks
Sass.

Took us five and half hours Hell's
Gate to Boorooloola earlier this year. Spent nearly an hour at the Calvert River having lunch and watching the entertainment.
Hell's
Gate had fuel in July when we were there. May have changed.

5.5 hours including a 1 hour lunch stop is ok! Thanks for replying :)

Hi Sass,
The Gulf Trek should be acurate as it is recorded by someone who has driven the route and recorded the trek with OziExplorer.
Therefore, the Trek data should be more reliable.
Bill.

when are you planning to travel as that will dictate the times, i am at
Doomadgee and will be adding road conditions as they happen and up dates on Hells
Gate and others around us, at the moment they will be selling fuel next year but all hangs on the wet, as usual..
Cheers Joe

At this stage, we'd be up there early July 2012, so in early planning stages at the moment.

still plan for delays or at least a bit slower trip if the wet is prolonged again as it was this year, you will only know that at the time, other than that have a good trip eh..

Have done it twice 1979 took two days, 2004 one day, next time lots of days as it is one of the best drives around. You should then do the nest of the
Savannah Way in the Terrority to
Roper Bar, even more specatular.
