Been looking over the specs for this as a replacement for my RA Rodeo.

Ford Ranger 2011

I was originally quite keen on the VW due out next year, but the 2l engine put me off a bit, sounds like you'd be revving the guts out of it the whole time. (I'll wait to see and drive it to judge though)

The Ford on paper looks like it will give many others a scare. The 3.2l 5 cyl sounds good, nice interior too.

Also like the styling, not too cartoon like, yet has the next generation clam shell look. (any bets ToyNisswoos will end up with the same look in their next model)

Is anyone else thinking the same way??
Did anyone see it at the Sydney MS ??

Certainly looks more like a Ford. Is this still a rebadged Mazda or does Ford make it?. You might check the rear seat access..I had a real job getting into a BT 50 as opposed to a Hilux dual cab when we had both hired for a fishing trip.
cheers...oldbaz.

I gather its Oz Ford designed to be built in Thailand and other places for world distribution. Mazda are getting a version of it too.

Ford Australia are crowing about it. Nice to think Australia is not the backward hole in the ground that some would have us believe.

Know what you mean about the old BT50 I looked at it before getting another Rodeo.

Apart from the Grille looks like a Hilux. 147KW and 470nm sounds nice from a 5 cylinder. Hard to judge the rest of the vehicle?

I'll bet you all in the money in the world you have Gonetroppo. LOL ..
It looks like a Hilux now. What it looks like is amlost irrelevant, the Hilux is the biggest selling utility vehicle in the countries history and the Ford Ranger is trying to get in on the act. Hilux buyers aren't going to switch unless the whole package can compete with the Lux, that is build quality, reliability etc.

More like the other way round. Also don't shout at people.

From themotorreport.com.au

2011 FORD RANGER
Update: new details added.
Unveiled last Friday at the opening of the 2010 Australian International Motor Show, Ford's all-new 2011 Ford 'T6' Ranger has received a rapturous response from showgoers and TMR readers.
Developed in Australia alongside the 2011 Mazda BT-50 over four years, the new next-generation Ranger forms part of Ford's ONE Ford stategy - the same plan that drove the design of the new Focus.
“Australia has played a leading role in the development of this latest global Ford product,” Joe Hinrichs, President of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa said.
Ranger is symbolic of how our great product development capability is being leveraged by the ONE Ford plan like never before.”

Development of the new global Ranger represents a $1.8 billion investment, with approximately 450 local engineers involved in the project.

Mazda's involvement in the development of the T6 global truck was limited to Mazda-specific issues such as corporate styling, equipment and features. Sure they had input into other aspects of it, but they had a back seat role.

In fact, Mazda threw a little hissy fit over who should have been awarded the engineering and design lead for the project, as they said Ford Australia was too "immature" to conduct the project. Fortunately for Ford Australia, head office back in Detroit saw it differently.

There will also be an SUV derivative of this car, but it may not be sold here.

P.S. Ford's product development centre is in Geelong :-P

The new Ford/Mazda is the first of the next generation ute, making everything else look old, I have an ml triton, which I really like, but the new mn imho went backwards with the 2,5l t/d.
The new Ford is not following the trend of smaller motor with big turbo, hiphip hooray, they get my vote, and hopefully, all the important parts will be made by Mazda so it will also be reliable, 4 years ago work had a new Ford falcon ute that blew its diff twice in 6 months before they traded it in on a jap ute, which hasn't missed a beat.

Hmm Road Warrior, well when I was being shown through the Ford Design centre in Broadmeadows and actually saw a SUV version of the Ranger called the Expedition, it looked the good, I think all design is done at Broady, do you mean the Discovery Centre in Geelong?
