Does anyone know of any nice
camping spots along the track? Somewhere you can pull up with a camper trailer for a couple of nights.
coordinates much appreciated.

John

Hi John,
There are no
camping spots along the
Bloomfield Track.
The track itself is only 30km long, stretching from
Cape Tribulation to the aboriginal settlement of
Wujal wujal.
The drive in ideal conditions takes around 1 hour although stops along the route may extend this time.
Have a look at the
Bloomfiled Treknotes for more information.
There is
camping facilities at
Cape Tribulation villiage or
Cooktown at either end, although I do vaguely recall a possible spot or two along the river, close to the
Cooktown end.
Bill.

IMHO one of the nicest spots along the Cape Trib road (can't really call it a track anymore) is about 5km south of
the junction with the Mulligan Highway near
Cooktown.....nice cold beer, great people and you may get to meet a few of the eccentric locals as
well...this place is The Lions Den. Room for a tent, a caravan, a camper or use one of their safari huts.

Agree with the Lions Den - lots of green open
camp sites, shady trees,
running creek, quiet, good amenities and a good beer.

Hi John,
We found a top spot to be Haley's Cabins and
Camping. A few k's north of
Wujal Wujal near
Ayton. Good enough to revisit to on our return leg.

This is going back to the late 70s so info might not be valid today:
We used to take a short track to
the beach near the
Ayton shop. If it was very windy (SE wind season) we would
camp just behind the treeline at
the beach. Otherwise we would drive a couple of K along the top of
the beach to the mouth of Plantation
Creek. Might not be good towing a trailer but you could still drive up for a look. We had the
creek behind us for muddies and bait, and a little reef just offshore if you have a tinny. We caught barra on the runout tide by tossing out a fresh mullet on a 100lb handline. Didn't appreciate the finer points of rod and reel fishing in those days.
Things might be different now,
beach access blocked off etc. Ask around at
Ayton.
In those days it took two hours from Lions Den to
Ayton before they put cement tracks down the steepest climbs. The coast road hadn't been built then, so we had to go the long way through Mt Carbine,
Lakeland etc. All dirt too from Mt Molloy.

Not long back
the beach spots were still there as
well as plantation
creek mouth.
I heard that you can not
camp near the Bloomfield River anymore.
Best to ask at the
Ayton Shop I would say.
Cheers Tony
