Gidday

It is a funny old place Australia. The morning news scan reveals floods in Queensland and NSW, snow in Victoria, best flow in the Murray in SA in 20 years, in our own state Carnarvon is under serious flood threat with the highest levels in 50 years ... and here in Perth we get excited about a morning sprinkle. I think I heard someone say Perth has exceded its December rainfall average! Pity it comes after one of the driest winters ever. Never mind, back to normal soon with 38C forecast for Christmas Day. I have relatives due to leave freezing London on Wednesday (if they can clear the snow off off runways at Heathrow) so won't that be a shock to the system.

Cheers

Rocco

Geez it's been raining on and off on the Gold Coast since before May, we moaned about the dry weather before that, wishing the dams would fill ect, they built the Desalination Plant at Tugun, constructed all the new Pipe Lines to carry the Effluent Water to the Dams and Power Stations ect, it cost several billion dollars, now most of the dams in QLD are overflowing, and the Govt is talking about Moth Balling all the new infrastructure, and it looks like a Wet Christmass, geez I'M STILL MOANING.

Cheers

Hi Daza.
You better watch your water on the coast. Anna is pumping water from Hinze Dam up to Wivenhoe.
It's a pity that is going down the spillway at Wivenhoe !!!!

Cheers.

Well we had all the clouds etc etc but the whole lot bypassed us, the airport shows just under 5 mm but the spinkle here didnt even wet the driveway! Just a lot of really strong wind, yep I know Gero is ALWAYS windy but this was really strong and heaps of dust.

Hmm.. I knew I shouldnt have had my husband clean the gutters in anticipation.

Hi to all on this thread,
O'Toole said Murphy was an optimist.!
This past yr. has been a bad one for many people. Our hearts go out to them and especially at this time of year.
The rains have been good for the water catchments & to flush the River systems but has also done so much damage.
Then will come the raging bushfires, some of which will be deliberately lit.
We think that the govern ment should be looking at all possible ways to minimise the damage caused by all of these things. That's what we pay them for.
Unfortunately the answers to this all lie" in the too hard basket"., as they give us lip service and carry on like tantrum throwing 2 yr. olds about some useless issues.
I'll go & put my flack jacket on now. I'm very sad for those who're suffering loss at the moment.
Evey good wish for the coming New Year, May it be better than this past one.
Take care.
With best wishes.
Bye Ma & Pa.

Yair, bit strange to be breaking out jackets in the week leading to Xmas.

Feeling for the flood victims round the country, particularly the farmers because they bear the brunt of it mostly - being larger landholders in less developed areas. I was listening to ABC radio reports from the Gascoyne region this morning and the enormity of the problem hit home, only because we have travelled through the region and can visualise the destruction. 'Worst on record' speaks for itself.....

One year's rainfall in a day would be a bit much for most I reckon.

Lachy at Bidgemia Station has to be the master of understatement in his summary on air saying 'he felt lucky' to have been rescued from the homestead'. The next bloke commenting on the situation suggested Bidgemia was pretty much washed away. What a tragedy for a family who put so much effort into their home. No doubt there are many others in the same situation but it hits home more when you have been through the area.

Hope their outlook improves come Xmas.

Phil
