We are in the process of converting our bus to travel Oz and are at a
cross roads weighing up the pros and cons of the two types of
toilet systems available to us. I am still doubtful as to the claims of "odour free" in the composting system but it is a far more enviromentally friendly option, and of course there is the
water usage issues....I dont know if after all these years we will be able to stand NOT flushing a
toilet after use....
Does any one have an opinion, or any 'pearls of widsom' they would like to pass on - it would be very much appreciated
Thank you

i dont know a great deal about the setups used but i dont recall ever reading about "composting"
toilets on "moving" things ....... i would be s#$t scared of jamming on the brakes and getting it come right back at ya ...
It is an option in a fixed housing setup but in my bus.... far to scared ...
I guess my take on it is that we work hard for very little time off, we dont want to spoil it trying to be "environmental" and end us a complete disaster and very possibly a health risk, some things just are not meant to be ... suppose i would rather "pearls of wisdom" rather than "pearls of poo" ...
Dont let me put you off, good luck with it if there is a good system out there..
Cheers
Joe

Thanks for that Joe! Conjured up come very vivid images!!! The composting system that we have looked at is not only for a fixed set up but also for caravans and boats,so it should cope with "moving" around in the bus, but it is something to add to the 'pros and cons' list!

Gooday,
Do not know whether it is a portable unit but there is a crowd at
Gin Gin in Queensland who sell a composting
toilet, Solar & Sat have a look at their website it may give you some more info. Do not expect them to be cheap, we have a Thetford C200 with SOG fitted so do not have to use chemicals and find it really great.
Cheers,
Boroma604.

I don't know about composting type, but I do no about flush verse vac
toilets & Vac work better every time, less
water used, hardly a blockage, but do use a bit more power. but remember the big question how easy is it to fix or un block is it a macerating, diaphram dump pump etc etc as all will need a repair sooner than later
good luck
