Moving to
Hobart to start a new permanent job (been full time on the road working for the past 10 years) and need a van park to stay in (we have a 23 footer) for the first few months while we get ourselves sorted out
Looking for somewhere nice, preferably near or on the water with public transport to the
Hobart CBD
Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated
Regards Don

Hi Don,
Don't have experience of the parks in
Hobart itself as they we're either not 'pet friendly' or full on the occasions we we're there but we have spend a couple of long spells at the delightful park at
New Norfolk, just up the Derwent Valley from
Hobart.
It's not too far to commute to the CBD (in fact it's ridiculously easy compared to Sydney/Melbourne/
Brisbane etc.) There are buses to/from
Hobart and many locals do work in
Hobart but the schedule is probably limited.
The caravan park is right on the River Derwent in a lovely location, within walking distance of the town centre and with sports fields and
walking tracks adjacent. When we were last there in early '09, the hosts were Ted and Sally and you couldn't ask for better managers. They are great friendly people and keep the park in pristine condition.
Hope this helps,
Ian P.

We agree with you and wished we'd stayed longer at
New Norfolk rather than moving closer in as it really isn't that far. Chris.

Treasure Island park is a bit dumpy and backs on to industrial area across the water. find something better I think. We stayed there briefly 1 week ago.

There's a CVP at Snug which is practically on
the beach, approx half hour out of the CBD, for public transport look at www.metrotas.com.au click
Hobart and surround then Margate, Channel and the bus time table should come up.
Another Mainlander coming to Tassie...Enjoy.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Baz

the c/park at Snug is right on beach as Daz has said, I think that it is the only close one south of
Hobart. We found that there were some that were closer but when we found them they were on longer open. Snug was clean and friendly when we were there a few years ago. I also have stayed at the one near the Cabury factory and got blown away as we were camped on top of the
hill above the Derwent river, the weather was bad. Hope you find one.

G'day Dong,
About 10 minutes east of
Hobart you will find the Barilla CP this is in a semi rural setting near Cambridge off the road to Rchmond. There is a hotel close by serving meals etc ,
seven mile beach is around 3-4 ks away a small take away
general store -servo 300 mtrs away. The
Richmond bus service passes the door + a local Metro service leaves from the
shop area to & from the cbd via 7 mile beach.
New Norfolk and winter not a good mix .LOL.
Cheers, Tassie.

Treasure Island was a good place to stay - not fancy but clean and the bus stops at the
gate. The industry across the water is the Cadbury factory and we found it easy to get around the area using the buses. Five minutes to main shopping area and around 20mins to
Hobart central bus terminal.
Not badly priced either.
Enjoy the little isle.
