G'day all, when in some remote areas of OZ..... 1300 772 273 is not always available or useable for some instances so use 02 8741 6205 for the same result also may be cheaper if you are on a mobile, hoo roo

Yeh, I remember last year helping a guy broken down north of Tenant Creek. He had NT RAC assist, which we offered to call, but when we rang the RAC number on a satphone, it diverted to Sydney (normally the one number will go to the state one is in, but the satellite service terminates in Sydney). We knew this would happen, so we said to the operator in Sydney that we wanted NT RAC. After 5 mins on hold and lots of dollars in satellite time, we gave up and drove up the highway till we found NextG coverage and rang the RAC NT.

Good point chaps. If using a satphone it may be wise to carry a list of local road service numbers.

Cheers

For RACQ, advice was to ring one of their branch offices, who could either put you through to roadside assist (which only has a 13 number), or if after hours the call would supposedly go there anyway.
