Set some ant traps or ant cafes, these are preferable to spraying them. They take the sweet liquid back to there nest and it's designed to kill the entire nest. You can also place ant rid in small bottle caps, just remember that the liquid is not uv stable so you need to cover it. Very effective long term way to remove ants

I use Amdro ant bait. It is small granules that the ants love. They take them and the active ingredient back to the nest and it wipes the colony out. Pretty expensive. Around $100 for 450 G container from memory. But it is a lifetime supply for your purpose. It may be available in smaller quantities, not sure.
When we first got our place in NT, we had lots of ants. Amdro did the job. Had not seen an ant in the house for months till we recently returned from being away for a few weeks. I put out one station and within 24 hours, no ants.
I put it out in small caps from the top of UHT milk cartons. Less than a thimble full per station. One or two bait stations around where they are active is enough. It works like a charm - and fast.
I bought it from Elders Rural Supplies. Should be available from similar sorts of
places.

Second Amdro. Its the sort of thing that you share with you neighbours and friends as you only need a small amount, and it has a shelf life of about 3 months once opened.

Amdro I find is very, very efficient on what we in the West call coastal ants. They are extremely small ants and love to get under brick paving. Amdro does not work at all with our normal black ants.

Yes, Amdro works on a range of ants, but not all. All specified on the label / instruction booklet.
It works on the full range of ants that seek to invade our home.

Hi westskip, we had a nest of black ants and I put some Mortein ant sand in the nest and they are all gone. I also use it for the little black ants outside. Inside I use ant rid. All works
well for me.
Cheers

Karl,
it may pay to check if the ants have built any nests behind switches, power points, or in your switchboard. They can certainly bugger up switches with their nests.
Happy hunting

And in the loo too, if you have one. They gummed up my pump when I first purchased it.
Apparently any
water is an attraction.

When I was a kid I remember Dad grinding together with a mortar and pestle a mixture of equal parts of Icing Sugar and Plaster of Paris and scattering the "powder" everywhere - the next morning there were dead ants all over the place, presumably constipated to death.

That works
well for rats and mice too, throw a sprinkle of chocolate powder in as
well.
Leave a dish of
water out nearby to ensure they don't go without a drink.

When I was a
young fellow many years ago Coopers Sheep Dip worked wonders. It was arsenic based.

As said, apparently wet areas do attract ants, and they can be the first
sign if
water damage under the skin. No first hand knowledge of this - just something to bear in mind and check on.
