Hi All
To those that read this and live outside South Australia, much of outback South Australia was drenched with up to 170mm of rain yesterday as an aftermath of cyclone Yasi. One such place that is now stranded is Mount Dare.
EO Member Jeff that manages the Hotel has just been on the radio and said that there has been more than a metre of water through the place, including the pub. Dave has been stranded at New Crown Station trying to bring supplies back to Mount Dare, while Dave's wife, Melissa and their 2 children have been evacuated by helicopter to
Oodnadatta. The
population of Mount Dare has now halved, with Jeff, his wife and their child the only people staying on. Jeff said that all roads in the area are likely to be closed for up to 3 weeks and are all torrents of water.
Jeff now said that the big clean up will now start, with most of the freezers and fridges ruined from being under water.
Like all EO viewers of the
forum, I wish Jeff and his family all the best in these trying times.
Cheers
Stephen

Thanks all,
We only just got back on line after jury rigging a power supply for the computers & phone lines.
We lost the southern side of the levy bank sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning, the water came up to the floor of the old
homestead around midday, then the northern side of the levy burst & started to let the water out so we effectively had a river running through the pub compound.
For those who have been out here the water came up to the underside of the dining tables in the pub & got to within 2 or three inches of the bottom of the generators.
The SA police sent a light aircraft over during the day & decided to evacuate us out by rescue helicopter because there was a chance of more water coming down the creek, we sent Melissa & the kids off with them yesterday evening but decided to say on ourselves to see what we could salvage.
This morning the water level has dropped to knee height in the pub & we are trying to clean up as much as possible.
Dave is trying to get back in sometime today by station helicopter to help out.
When the water dries up & the roads open then we will have to have a look at repairing & improving the levy banks.
Thanks for all the support that the 4wd & traveling community has given us over the years & we will be operating as usual when the season starts in a month or so.
Haven't seen any snakes yet, they probably left before it got too wet!

Hi Jeff, glad you are all OK out there. It is hard to believe that the water has come up that far. Good luck with the clean up.
Cheers

Hi Jeff,
You're in our thoughts mate. Take care and good luck with the clean up.
Our club is involved with cleaning up Murphys Creek here in Qld, after the Jan 10 flood, and that was an amazing amount of water that went through there, but I must admit to finding it hard to imagine a metre of water through Mt Dare! I mean, it being desert and all... water to the dining tables.... where we sat and ate our lunch last July! Bugger!!
Hope all ends
well out there Jeff, although knowing how stoic "outbackers" are, I'm guessing this is just another page in the book.
Cheers
Brian
