Had to do a quick trip to
Mildura yesterday and I decided to drop in to have a look at the flows coming down the two rivers at
Wentworth.
There is still a lot of water to come down both rivers to this point, but it took me by surprise to see this much water in a lovely
picnic area at
Wentworth.
The
pic clearly shows the difference in the colour of the water from the Darling as it enters the main stream of the Murray.

Wow, we had lunch there early January.
It will be interesting how high it gets. How high is it at the lock.

I didn't get down to the Lock unfortunately Sharon.
I wonder how the little Fergie will go. It will be under water for a while I think.

I'm guessing this is still the Christmas water getting down there?
Despite what the news may tell you, most of
Toowoomba's water is actually west bound in the Murray Darling catchment and not heading to
Brisbane as reported. Its due to peak at
Bourke over the next fortnight and its already nearly as high as our "christmas water" peak. Should be interesting further south in a few weeks time.

Tim, there is quite a bit of flooding at
Menindee now, they are letting out as much water as possible without causing an uncontrolled flood.
They are trying to make some room for all that water your sending down.

Yeah Tim, I rang one of the tv channels about that. Monday morning we had another down pour that gave us a bit of a fright.
Jan we tried to follow the Murray Darling system from
Murray Bridge to Twba. Impossible.

Hi Dave
Very interesting pictures. I have been following the River flows very regular. You may have read my blog from early January when we headed to the River to follow up on the rising water levels. Since the 2nd January, the river flows through Lock 1 actually dropped very slightly and were just under the 50,000 megalitres per day and have been constant since then until last week. As you can see from the screen dump, it has increased by more that 10,000 megalitres per day in the last week and rising fast now. The peak flow is estimated to be around the 80,000 megalitres per day and at its current increased flow rate, we could see the first peak in around 2 weeks time, give or take. The next expected flow peak is expected late March, early April.
When the levels get near their peak down here in SA, we will duck over for more pictures and updates.
Cheers and Regards to Nora.
Stephen and Fiona.

Stephen, a lot of the ground is saturated now so it will be a bit difficult to know how fast the water will travel.
The
Blanchetown and
Kingston bridge might be as close as you can get to the water :>).
When you come up, bring the aerogard. The mozzies are straight out of the Boeing factory.

Flow at the
SA border is now 91,000 meg per day as of today and similar at
Wentworth. It is expected to drop to 75,000 over the next 2 weeks. Where I live we overlook the flood plain which is normally dry, we now have water
views. Sorry I can't put photos in as I am no longer a member.

G'day Brendan, I was surprised when I got there.
There was hi-vis bunting stretched right across
the entrance to the park.
You couldn't drive down there.
We could only walk to the
toilet block, water was nearly up to there.

Hi Dave and all,
It has been an exceptional week.Last Friday's storm dropped 224 mm of rain on the
Red cliffs area-a year's rainfall in 24 hrs.heaps of flash flooding over 259 homes affected but because low lying areas affected are in the swales of sandhills unfortunately no drainage Huge pumps are having little affect nearly a week later with heaps of homes sitting in a nasty cocktail of contaminated water.Local roads still slosed and will stay that way for some timeThe areas of Irymple,
Red Cliff and Cardross are thre worst impacted but
Mildura cbd has better drainage and the problem quickly dispersed there
Cardross 400 m away still has 3ft of water lying like a great lake in the middle of which is our much loved footy/cricket/netball facility. Will have to evaporate dry I think meanwhile starting to stink and breed mossies
Think the media is flood weary as we have hardly had a mention in Melb papers.
Hoping the expected rain tomorrow will not cause more troubles.
Cheers,
mary

Mary, we stopped at a roadside fruitstall at Merbein and they were telling us how much rain you had down your way.
Seemed to be a huge difference across town. 6 inches at Merbein in that downpour and a lot more your way.
I don't recall seeing that much water lying around on any trip down from the
Hill.
Hope you are all OK where you are.
cheers
Dave
