Hi,

Would like to know for a mate if carrying the fridge on the draw bar of a camper eventually destroys them. He recently brought a Campomatic and the fridge is located on the draw bar in a box. Any one done this over the long term and had dramas???? The fridge is a 3 way but maybe changed to an Engel.

Thanks

I have no doubt plenty will say it's ok and their camper trailers float like silk across a snow field (now that's something i haven't seen) but for peace of mind if nothing else keep it in the car. It is cooler, better sprung (no matter what suspension is on the trailer) and you can get to it easier. What happens when you want to go for a day without the camper - need to disconnect and put in the car (or have another fridge) - just have it in the car anyway. bye

And for those of us who don't have room in the vehicle for a fridge, the only option is in or on the trailer.

Some builders even have it as an option.

Its not the ideal option, in the vehicle would be better, but I know of a few folks with their fridges on the trailer and had no probs.

They weren't engels by the way

And I've been told by 3 of the major manufacturers that carry their fridge in/on a trailer will void warranty.Smile, you're on ExplorOz

We keep our fridge in the car but I know many top of the range trailer manufacturers that supply and install fridges on the drawbar as an option. Kimberley Kampers, Aussie Swags and of course, Campomatic spring to mind. What the long term effects on the fridge are I couldn't say though.

G'day all,
provided the fridge is securely fastened to the draw bar, why would it's installation be any different to those installed in caravans. Considering the strength of construction and design of fridges like Engels and Waeco, I would have thought that the biggest issue would be physical protection from garbage thrown up by the tow vehicle not by the movement of the trailer.
