Yes they are the same.

They will interchange.

Eli,

Maybe a little bit of extra clarification for you.

The Hella plug won't fit into a Merit socket, if the red collar is still on it.
The Hella plug will fit both a Merit or Hella socket with the collar removed, or a standard cigarette socket with the collar on.

They are a very good plug and socket and I have standardised all 12 volt equipment to suit this standard.

Bill.

Hi Bill

Yes I should have mentioned that.

There is also an adapter for cigar sockets.

Depends what you refer to as a Hella plug, the plug with the red collar is not what I'd call a Hella plug, Hella do make a combination cig/hella plug with this collar but what most people refer to as a Hella plug doesn't have this and is exactly the same as a Merrit plug. Narva also make an equivilant. Check out the hella and narva websites. Personally I wouldn't use any of the combination cig type plugs, they're not much better than a normal cig plug

Hi Brett

The red collar ones do snap into the socket so they do hold tight, granted they are not as firm as the non red collar type but then they are not fused. It is a bit of a trade of of fused v/s non fused.

Most fridge manufacturers use the red collar type because of the fuse and ability to be used in both hella and cigar sockets.

Derek, the red collar ones do snap in and are an improvement over a cig but I found even on my Waeco the plug got warm. Replaced it with a genuine Hella and inline blade fuse, much better setup.

Yes as long as you fit a fuse in the circuit that is great.

I use Anderson plugs on my fridge.

I know I will be asked why I have 2 cables running to the fridge.

One is for the 600W Pure Sine Wave inverter. I have it mounted to the dead space below the fridge handle on the other side and use a power board connected to it.
