Deserts Parks Pass needs can only be purchased from National Parks in Port Augusta IIRC, at least that's who I have to deal with, apart from the money a painless exercise usually.

You definately dont need a desert parks pass to drive along the ODT. At Lake Eyre you can purchase either a day visitor permit or an overnight camping permit, no different to any other park. The desert parks pass is around $100 and not needed unless you are heading into the Simpson Desert.

Actually, the drive from William Creek out to Halligan Bay is via a Public Access Route on Anna Creek Station. No permits are required to drive that route.
The boundary of the Lake Eyre National Park is the edge of the lake itself, so the car park and camping area also seems to also be on Anna Creek Station property, as I see it.........but that is certainly not the impression that the signs on the way in appear to convey............?????

Peter,

Are you sure about that?

There is a self registration station on the Halligan Bay Track.
Parks SA also specify a permit is required for vehicle entry and camping.
A day pass is adequate, rather than a full Desert Parks Pass which covers all SA Parks for a 12 month period.

A desert parks pass does not cover all sa parks, it only covers a handfull of desert parks, eg. like the simpson as mentioned above.
