Hi Broomedreamer,

Might be an idea to hold of buying just yet as they are modifying the frequencies that the radios use.

This will occur later in the year acording to some fellow members who have posted info on here in the last week or so.

They will probably come in shortly with some comments.

Cheers, Bruce.

Broomdreamer,

I would suggest that you ask for one thats upgradable, and ask for that in writting. I know GME do a couple of upgradable ones, Oricom and ICOM have them and I believe that Uniden may also have them.

From GME -
The TX3100 and TX3340 will be User upgradeable, while the TX3220, TX3420 and TX3440 will be Dealer upgradeable.

The TX3100 starts about $300.00

Good luck

Hi Tony, mine is a TX4400 and it looks like I am in a hole as far as upgrades go. Thought about ringing GME to see if the Hype is correct that the TX 4400 is one of the ones that miss out.

Pity, as they are a dam good unit.

Bruce,

I have the TX4600 and I am in the same boat, I was trying to see if they would trade as I am sure my old unit could be used somewhere in the world...

If for short term use only, consider getting a good hand held. It will not have the range, but will be sufficient to communicate with vehicles in sight and announce/hear announcements on narrow bridges and crests.
