We are looking to stay 4 or 5 nights in Coral Bay towards the end of June.
Can anyone advise as to which is the best park, Peoples park or Bayview, or perhaps one that I have not heard of. We are in a small tent, so do you think we would need to book a powered site. Thanks for your help.

Only two and the second one along is better. Dont know what to do for 5 nights except if the Whalesharks are still there.

No drinkable water except for camp kitchens.

1 1/2 days was enough for us.

I guess everyone has a different idea as to how long is enough but if you haven't already you may may want to try giving them a call and see if you can even get in. They get pretty busy at that time of year.

Coral Bay in June...... You'd want to book now and take what you can get!!!

If haven't tented at either so I couldn't guess which is better for tenting.

Whilst you are there, be sure to try the bakery, they have great pies

We stayed at Bayview last September and will be again this year (2 weeks of nothing, bliss) Bayview has 1 new shower / toilet block and one older one (was always full of sand) and has a playground for kids, pool, cafe, tennis court. Lots of shade where we camped. Lovely place to go and relax and enjoy time with the kids.

HI Maggie, you will definitely need to book and I wouldn't be surprised if you can't get in. From memory the powered sites had more shade.
We stayed at the first cvp on the way in, it was peak season and we got stuck on a postage stamp sandy site in the full sun. Just had to make sure we were in the water or doing stuff until things cooled down. Visited some friends in the other cvp= they had more shade and more grass. I think the first cvp has a pool. When we arrived there was a line of people whom hadn't booked, hoping for a site, all being turned away.doc.

You definately have to book ahead. For school hols they tak bookings a couple years in advance. We have stayed at the peoples cp last year and are going again in april this year. I have never stayed at Bayview but from looks the people cp looks to be grassier.

We have stayed twice at the peoples park and loved it . We requested a spot at the front, we did have a 21 footer. Stayed there for 8 days both times . Did fishing and walked along the beach , did the tour thing was realy good. Yes they are expensive there just stock up before you go. Make sure you water tank is full . The showers are artitian water , warm and saltie . Excuse my spelling . Huge monitor lizards just wandering around. Looked at the other park and just seemed to be to much sand there for my liking. Oh and it can get windy aswell.

I think u will find it hard to find a decent spot in Coral Bay at that time of the year, being winter both Parks are full to overflowing, same thing happens where i live in Exmouth 140 kilometres north, as mentioned it gets windy there mainly in the morning at that time of the year.

If you cannot get a booking in a caravan park in Coral Bay ( I do not know my dates as this is on our homeward journey from Broome, where else can you camp.
I see there is the Cape Range National Park which shows camping sites on my map.We are new to camping in a tent, (this is our adventure) it may be a nightmare, but we are going to give it a go and enjoy the fun of it. I do not like the idea of camping where there are no other people.

Maggie,

As others have said all that area is full up with caravans there for 3 or 4 months - and they will often have booked a year in advance. Cape Range NP can be full up as there are only about 90 sites that are strictly regulated. When we were there people were queuing at the park entrance from 2am in the morning. Also its quite windy and there is not much shelter from the wind.

However there are a couple of caravan parks at the northern end of Cape Range and from there you could do day trips into the NP. Still worth trying to book ahead a bit as they get busy too. Yardie Homestead Caravan Park is the one whose name I recall.

It seems that you are new to this type of travelling so good on you for having a go and I hope you have a wonderful trip. I sort of understand you feeling safer with other people around, but in practice our experience suggests that you would have nothing to worry about if you tried bush camping. For us and many others its the best way to camp and quite safe. That said, in that area around Exmouth and Coral Bay it is almost impossible to bush camp - for starters there is not much bush. Some of the big properties allow campers in for a fee eg Ningaloo, but even then the wind can make tenting unpleasant.

Cheers,

Val

Maggie even Cape Range National Park can be hard to get a spot at that time of the year, if you come to Exmouth go to the local DEC office and see if there are spots available, rather than drive all the way over there and find it is booked out. The biggest problem with this part of the country is the the long termers who tent/caravan here for 3 to 4 months.

Thank you all for your input. I think I will try to get a booking at the Peoples Park Caravan. I will try to book about 2 weeks ahead of time, so I hope I am lucky

Cheers
