I just rang Campbelltown Nissan to buy a new gasket for the lid of the airfilter box. It's a piece of 6mm square foam that seals the lid to the base when you change your airfilter. I noticed it had a small piece missing when i changed the airfilter last weekend. Its not important if you dont go into water as the airfilter element has a seal top and bottom to seal the airbox base and the lid and if a little air gets sucked into the box via the broken gasket, it doesnt matter because it still has to go past the filter but if you go into deep water( with a
snorkel), there is a chance water will get in via
the gap in the gasket. It possibley wouldnt be a great amount of water but not worth the risk if a simple gasket fixes the problem.. The gasket is not available on its own and comes with the complete lid assembly $195 + GST.... Anyone had this problem and is the same gasket available on any other Nissan Models with the same airbox?? Maybe a Navara or Pathfinder.... regards Michael

Thats a factor in both why I did buy a new Nissan and made sure it was petrol Micheal.
Specifically they have a higher proportion of simpler more basic and fixable components , including ,in the case of the GU over ten years of the same common bits , spares , wrecker sources etc.
E.G. Windscreens - $75 fuel pumps and $9 spark plugs - whereas my next choice - 200 series -
well , you have read before about injectors, complexity of changing a starter etc.
On top of that is a generally lesser requirement of bits on a car with no known generic issues.

I don’t understand the logic of buying a older vehicle because its simpler and has cheaper parts.
Given a choice most would go for modern technology and performance.
Otherwise we'd all be driving T Model Fords

Not old Dennis - just older simpler technology - and you can buy it new today.
Thinking of live axles coils , no-turbos, complex fuel pumps , low pressure fuel rails , no press button start etc

I suppose I have 2 bob each way – I have a modern diesel with live axles and leaf springs, no ABS or air bags.

The following is a thoughtful opinion on the topic, and not a rant or rave and not meant to change anyone else's point of view....
Depends where you want to travel Dennis.... I have a GQ Patrol, burnt the alternator out on the QAA line, but was able to drive to
Birdsville to get replaced. Whilst there I spoke with a fellow who had a later model car, with a computer on board, he had alternator issues and the computer would not allow the car to start. So he had to be towed to the mechanic. Imagine if he had have had to be towed from the
dog fence..... woulda cost a motza I reckon.
My theory is that while ever there's a chance I will travel that far "outback", I will do it in an un-computerized" car......... If my adventures become restricted to urban environments, then I'll consider a more modern car.
Cheers
Brian

Yep each to his own.
My old man was a real old bushy and hated cars that didn't have crank handles.
How far do you take it?

Hi Michael,
Trust me it's not Nissan.
Recently when I was getting my 100 series cleaned at the local car wash I noticed that the small mat hook that stops the floor mats from moving was missing. Just a 20c part I thought. Wrong! Mr Toyota won't sell just the plastic hook - you have to but the entire set of carpets to get the hook @ $95.00 - No thanks!
Then the small air vent slide adjuster clip broke. Again not more than a 20c plastic part. Can you but one. Not on your Nelly! Mr Toyota will only sell you the entire air vent assembly at $495.00!
What a unmitigated rip off!
Ah - I feel so much better now after airing that!

I suppose you only have to look at a front Commodore mudguard for about $150 compare to a Honda at $1000..... where is the value in imported car parts?
