Hi All, thinking of upgrading the Prado for a newer model, can anyone tell me the differance between the GX and the GXL 3Lt T/D ? (apart from about $18,000 in cash) our budget will be a max of $60,000 so we're torn between a good 2nd hand with B/B T/B etc or a new drive away at that price, all advice appreciated,
thanks in advance,
Dave

"Have you checked their website?"

How dare you be so bold and daring to suggest such a novel new idea.

You truly are a breath of fresh air to this forum.

Hi Dave. We just bought the new GXL at the end of January and are really thrilled with it. Negotiated quite hard at the dealers and got it drive away with a tow bar for $62,000. Definitely worth the extra $2,000 for you over your budget and who knows maybe the dealers are even better to negotiate with in April. Was told a 'trick' by a car salesman once before and that was to negotiate near the end of the month when dealers have quotas to fill. Looking around now for a bullbar ready for some trips as the weather cools and looking at an ECB or TJM as the Toyota one looks terrible. Our car dealer Surf Toyota in Tweed Heads. Hope that helps. Yes Dave, did include stamp duty and 12 months reg. Go armed with the ads and negotiate hard. Do remember to wait until the near end of the month though, I'm sure that works. Discount New Cars have an ad running with $62,000 as their price so talk hard to get the tow bar etc. Surely WA can't be much different in car sales to QLD. Good luck. Our only fault now is that the vehicle is so nice, we are wondering about taking it off road - still thought like that over the 100 Landcruiser when we first bought it too. All the best, Jan

Dave,

Here are most of the differences:
GX has 6.5" rims and 245/70 17 tyres vs GXL with 7.5" rims and 265/65 17. OVerall tyre diameter is the same but there is fewer choices in the GX size.

GXL has body coloured mirrors and door handles, reverse camera and dual zone aircon for front seat occupants.

GXL third row seats which fold flat but consequently the floor is probaby 12-15cm higher. It has another aircon system in the rear for the 3rd row seats. The 3rd row has cupholders built into the rear quarter panel trims.

GXL comes with side steps wheras the GX does not (I find this a strange thing to leave off a 4wd).

There are probably a couple of other differences that I can't think ofoff the top of my head.

In the end the choice depends on what is important to you. For us having maximum cargo space was important so we bought the GX, as even with the 3rd row seats removed the cargo area in the GXL is smaller because of the 3rd row aircon and cupholders.

We replaced the standard stereo with a unit that has GPS and a reverse camera builit in.

Ando

Big thank you for that, but I'm still amazed Jan got the GLX for $62,000 that model here is a LOT more , that aside it doesn't seem to be worth the extra so far I'll look forward to some more comments hopefully by tomorrow we might have a better idea, but glad I asked here though........
cheers ,
Dave

Hi Dave. This ad has been in the Sydney Daily Telegraph Drive section for the last couple of weeks. This one is from fri 25/3. Turbo Diesel for $61990 drive away means no more to pay by state law over here now. Cheers,Bob

We bought a 60th anniversary in Perth two days before Christmas. We had just returned from a 10 month trip around Oz and had been looking at the Landcruisers since back in Queensland - one thing we noticed was that they were cheaper over East!

We negotiated and ended up paying $91K - well worth it, tows the van a dream and so far the economy is fantastic. Just drove down from home in Geraldton to Perth and with a really strong headwind still managed to average 14 litres per hundred kilometres. (Turbo Diesel model) We tow a Coromal Pioneer Corvair 18 footer.
