Has been some good replies about these campers...but they are a tad heavy ( 1300 kg dry )..

That won't worry you in a 200 series, but it all depends on what you are looking for in a camper ??

Strange that you should mention these campers, I hadn't heard of them until today when I visited a local camping show here on the Sunshine coast and came across them. What a great unit, they had the three models on display, the 490 with all the bells and whistles was $65k or $46k with less equipment. Very military looking and well built with a very different design to anything else I'd seen on the market. Everything was made from either pressed steel or canvas including draws, cupboards etc... Made in South Africa, certainly looked the business and I guess the price is comparable with a Kimberly Kamper etc..

saw them at sydney 4x4 show last year, very impressed, solid built, not something I would want to live in for 6 or 12 months travelling around oz, & if you can justify spending that money on one,eg how much will you use it for weekends or weeks per year,go for it,you can go a lot more places then a $100,000 plus caravan & more comfort then a tent on a trailer, only you can answer that, my advise is not is not to rush into anthing, the more you travel the more you learn what you need

Thanks for the reply, probably the longest id be living in a camper would be 2 months until i retire hopefully hahah in a few years. Its hard to find that balance between what you want and need and a budget.

I had a good look at these at the Penrith 4wd show last year as we are thinking about what comes next as we age and find our camper trailer harder to manage, especially in bad weather. I think we have about 3 - 5 years before we need to have changed.

We would like something that you can access easily say for having lunch in the rain without doing the full erection !

My impression was that they were good quality but overbuilt for normal use and had a lot of gadgets and extras we would not use. We like simple but comfortable camping.

I appreciate your comments. IM more interested in the 440 or 490 extreme ,not really keen on tvs and dvd players. Im happy with basics its what camping is all about, but times are a changing and it seems im a dinosaur.

Cheers

I have had a Conqueror UEV490 Extreme for a couple of months now and think it is perfect for what I want it for - I have just retired - am in the process of leasing my house and once that is done I will be on the road for 1-2-3 years

I prefer not to use Caravan parks and usually camp in the more 'out of the way' spots.

I have posted a few pics of my rig here

UEV490

and here

UEV Shakedown Trip

cheers and beers
