Victorian Government Roads Black Spot Program

Once apon a time the good people of Victoria elected a government who decided to do something of bad black spots on roads - you know, the ones where accidents occur. Several millions of dollars were poured into the program which alleviated some of the worst ones.

In Brackstate now because funds have been getting short the government in its wisdom has decided that speed at any cost is a revenue raiser and any black spot is a better revenue raiser.

Recently a pothole which was being successfully avoided in western Victoria on the Hamilton Highway was the scene of massive tax collection.

In Victoria we are all acquiainted here with a Minister for Transport, leaping the Geelong Road in a helicopter to avoid the speed limits at 40kmh when no one was working in the limited areas. Well in this case a 40kmh limit was applied to the said pothole, and of course no attention being paid to it.

The black spot was created by hanging a speed camera to the sign wasn't it. I am reliably informed by state and federal MPs that 55 people lost their licence in one afternoon, by exceeding the 40kmh limit by 25kmh or more. I don't know the traffic count in that part of the road but it would not be large.

I have much more respect for the NSW government ideal of slowing drivers for black spot areas on highways. This is really showing that revenue collection is the only priority NOT safety as has been espoused and soon there will be few to carry the can for the state in revenue payment.

The other spin off will be more black spots on our roads as there is now a reduction in available money too in regional areas, I do remember roads of Joan. Could one guess more cameras? Perhaps its the friends of bjsv650 in showing social responsibility not just with 4by owners!!!

Remember this is not a Police issued function, just take care,
John

Hi John,

Well said. Hopefully though all those who lost their licences will join the possible legal action against the Bracks Governement for using fixed cameras that don't even work correctly. Unfortunately, if a case is raised and won by the citizens of Victoria, and possibly other states, it will be the Vics who will suffer with even higher taxes to repay any multi million, if not billion dollar claim.

Bloody Bracks and his cronies have already lost millions of dollars left by the Kennett regime, now they will put Victoria back to the dark ages of the Cain/Kirner era. Victoria the Place to Be? Maybe not.

Bloody Bracks and his cronies have reduced their millions of dollars raised from taxes on gaming establishments, cigarette companies and others with their policies, and replaced them with revenue raising speed cameras. Now we find out they too are faulty...

All I can say is what next?Just Do It!

Sad but true John, my personal favorite is a piece of cost saving budget brilliance just north of melb. Old Sydney Road is the extension of Mickelham rd which heads up towards the back of Wallan, it has single lane bitumen and dirt sections but lo and behold one day there was a new dual lane sealed section created between blind crests , some genious had gone and painted a centre line on the section of single width tar, now only room for a skateboard on each side of the road. So there you go a dual lane road created for only the cost of a can of paint !!! BONUS PAYMENTS all round thanks :-) I remember a little election statement from bracksy to do with looking after the country areas, how soon they all forget. No support = no population = no voting power = a vicious circle. Makes me sad to see what we are losing .. Cheers BradLife is short- but there's always time for a yarda.
