Good afternoon all, I just thought I would share with you some info most of you probably already know!
I love my toast at brekky time & have not had much success when staying on unpowered sites in our van. I have tried a few different sorts of toasters designed for cooking toast on a gas burners & have not had much success, so have usually resorted to using the jaffle iron with either baked beans or spaghetti or an egg as filling & at times some left overs from the night before.
Any of which make a pretty good Brekky in my book, but there is nothing like a slice of toast in my opinion with a good thick spreading of Vegemite to have with a cuppa.
Anyway I recently bought a Companion Model COMP9221FS folding stainless steel toaster & it is a little rip snorter! Cooks toast to perfection & only cost the princely sum of $15.00. Cheers & happy toasting.

Barry, I'm with ya on the toast bit mate, with dollops of vegemite or golden syrup. Just depends on the old taste buds that morning.
I've got a graveyard of unsucessful gas toaster thingys as
well, amongst many other failed items of promise. Mayby salvation is at hand LOL.
Let us in on the tip mate....Wheeeeeeredyagetit ?????????
Have a good one fellas.
Fred :~)

Hi Mark, I bought
mine from Camping Country Superstores, they have outlets at Warner's Bay & Belmont North here in the
Newcastle area. The brand name "Companion" is pretty common with gas stuff so I would imagine that they would be pretty common & available at most camping
places.
I've experimented with it a bit & the trick seems to be not to have to much flame. We have three gas burners on our stove & I get the best result using the medium burner which has a more concentrated area than the large one.
An added bonus (according to my wife) is that I will no longer have the need to have a jaffle stuffed with baked beans for brekky, she reckons they make me "break wind" which I assume is women's talk for farting LOL & cheers

Hi Fred, I'm a bit out of sequence here, but never mind! As said & like you I have discarded a few toasters & blamed them as "useless" but then I began looking at the heat output of our burners. This was prompted by the fact that it took an eternity to boil a kettle of water for a cuppa.
So a trip to the gas company for some replacement & larger gas jets have now put us in a situation whereby we now have a need at times to turn the heat down rather than wishing we had the capacity for a few more horse power out of them, so we are now in a better position to control the heat output.
So when using the toaster (IMO) you need to use a burner that is not to big & that allows the flame to lick around the outer perimeters of the toaster. Its better if the flame is a little more concentrated under the stainless steel diffuser which allows heat to do the job rather than flame sort of thing. Hope that helps & cheers.

Geez, I thought everyone knew that.
I have had
mine 5 years or so and a non folding one 10 years before that.
You can also buy replacement stainless mesh for them just about everywhere.

My toasting rack works
well but now is for "backup" when using the camper trailer.
I have found the camper gas griller toasts extra
well and I can do two at the same time, while cooking the eggs and bacon on top:-)

Hi Bazza
You need to drop the wife at spotlight and go off to BCF for a good brouse.
We have gas at
home and use the companion to
cook crumpets. It doesn't just warm then up it toasts them, mmmmmm delicious.

You don't have a toaster with crumpet setting to toast the bubbly side?
Mine is getting old but saw new ones in Bing Lee last week.

I threw out all the
shop bought ones and made one from stainless steel plate with holes drilled in it and use it for cooking, barby and good toast on the plate. The eggs i do in a cast iron pan, i get good results but each one to his own i say. Experiment until you get your best.
Cheers.

Nuthin comes close to a good ol' frying pan to make the best toast this side of a Sunbeam. Try it, you'll chuck that dammed useless wire mesh camping toaster as far as you can throw the bloody thing after you go back to real, unburned toast that doesn't tast like carbon.
Try it, it is so simple. And you are already carrying it. Just don't put the flame on too high and like all toasters keep an eye on it.
