Anyone been in this area recently - we are seeking an update as we expect to be travelling in that area early in May 2011. Last report as at 7 March says road closed.

G'day Ray & Sue-Ellen,

The only suggestion I would offer is check this site each day.

Ray and Sue,
I heard this week that Birdsville will only be accessable in 6 weeks time and that is only if there is no more rain. Water is still travelling down the Georgina and now that Roma is flooded again (I know it is a long way from Birdsville but the weather patterns indicate a wet inland) my guess is try another destination.

Birdsville is already accessible by road from the east - the road opened on Friday last week. My husband Ian travelled it on Sunday - the last part from Windorah in the dark. It has been accessible by road from the north for a while - provided you wanted to travel from Winton, past the Middleton Hotel, east of Boulia via Springvale and Coorabulka, east of Bedourie via Lake Machattie into Birdsville. I will be flying into Birdsville on Thursday 21 and will then give everyone an update on all road conditions and the Simpson. I will be taking my computer and camera with me (and binocluars for my birdwatching).
So keep posted and I will let you all know.
PS Way too much water around Birdsville still for fishing - but Ian got a good supply of bigger (eating) yabbies today - need to find some creekfood for Easter Friday (and as entree for the Anzac Day Feast we normally have).
HOw good is that?
