hello all I have a 80 series base diesel and found that the origanal cruise control magnet was missing off the tail shaft . must have knocked it off the last time in the bush .I purchased a new magnet from auto
barn, they told me to fit it with fine wire.
Well after only a few km,s at highway speed it was gone again . any clues of how to keep them on the tail shaft would be helpful

Try using some silicone as
well as the wire. Make sure the job is clean and leave it to cure properly before using the vehicle. Ensure that there is sufficient clearance and that the wire is trimmed properly.

Having the same problem with my cruise. Have not got around to it yet but going to use wire and arildite to keep the bloody thing on. Have lost one magnet. don't want to loose any more.

I used araldite and some cable ties. Never came off after many years.

Ditto. Scraped the paint off the tailshaft, removed the double-sided tape off the magnets (if fitted), araldite the magnets on, then wrapped the wire around, and smeared araldite along the wire so it could not vibrate/fatigue in any way. Never had a problem after that on the old GQ.
Oh, and also checked that the pickup coil was not too close to the magnets - the tailshaft shakes around quite a bit and can knock against the pickup coil, with obvious results. Even araldite won't save the magnets if they hit the pickup. I recall a good cm gap was necessary.

Hi Viola,
I had the magnets attached by the cable tie, and it took one stone to snap the cable tie and the magnets eventually vibrated off. The replacement magnets I bought from Command had the wire to secure them to the shaft and this is more secure than the cable tie.
Just my opinion.

Gday
If it is a 9/92 or later cruiser, you can wire into the electronic spedo sensor off the transfer.

the magnet I used was in a small metal cradel with lugs on both ends to take the wire . I only had about 5mm clearance .sounds like 10mm is the go and some epoxy resin . I spose I should
check my gearbox mounts for movement thanks for the replies back to the bush cheers.
