Here are the rest areas:

We usually use the
Lake Hart rest area. Most rest areas have tracks leading into the bush a bit so you can have a
bush camp and don't have to
camp on gravel.

We also stayed at
Lake Hart when we went through in July 2010. The
rest area had quite a few caravans pulled over for the night and wasn't suitable for tents etc. Get there in daylight so you can see the tracks etc and find a spot to pull up in away from the gravel. It is also worthwhile wandering down to the lake itself. Our photos of the lake are on
Flickr in the first 3 and a half rows

Nick,
Have heard that
Pimba Rest Area (CAW 6- 627) is a good overnight stop - but not on a Friday or Saturday night (local wateringhole).
There are plenty of freecamps along this road.
Jeff.

Our favourite o/night
camp site up that way is about 34klm south of
Pimba..... you need to turn right/east off the highway where the
Woomera water pipeline crosses under the road. There is a dirt track that follows the pipeline and if you go along there about 1klm you will be able to pick a nice quiet spot in amongst the trees. There is usually ample small firewood for a
camp fire there too. No facilities whatsoever.
Cheers
Roachie

My secret
camp spot on a trek north is near Pootnoura Siding past
Coober Pedy. There is a Main Roads
Camp about 70km north of
Coober Pedy called Pootnoura. But it is noisy and can fill with generator bearing vans and RV's.
A little way on is Pootnoura Siding on your left and a
Microwave Tower. Take the bush track to the Siding and Tower and drive about 300metres beyond the Tower. There the land falls away into an ancient creekbed. You may
camp there amongst the Mulga Trees out of sight of the Highway and away fron roadtrain lights.
Cheers
Spero
