I am planning to do the
Simpson Desert trip in winter this year. I have a 2.8 GU patrol and am wondering if anyone has completed the trek in such a vehicle. If so, I am interested in any comments about fuel consumption crossing the Simpson. I would also be interested in general, what decrease in mileage to expect on the trip by other vehicles.

We crossed the simpson via the french line in 98 in a turbo diesel troopy and a 4.2 diesel Gq Nissan. both loaded
well and used about 75 litres each
Birdsville to Dalhouse Springs. We were lucky & had damp sand almost all the way.
Returning 2 weeks later very hot & dry we used about 120litres Mt Dare to
Birdsville.
Have A great trip
