Working on the car in the shed saturday evening and called down for tea - an hour later I go back into the shed.
Hear some strange noises and up in the loft this Koala has taken up residence.
Not only that he climbed to the highest point when he saw me and dug his claws into the sheet of plasterboard as shown in the picture.
Couldn't believe this - but then how do you get rid of it.

Got some suggestions - but
well we are pretty much Vegetarians these days !
In the end we just left all the doors open, figured he would soon realize
there wasn't much to eat here and go elsewhere.
It was still there some hours later but had gone by the next morning.

Maybe he had some advice on how to fix the car. Why didn't you just give hime a cuddle and send him on his way lol. We had a wombat turn up at
home one day. He'd been shot and it was all infected. He was actually pushing on the door and tried to come inside. We manage to get him to the shed. Each day we went out and cleaned the wound. He was there for about 4 weeks. The wound had pretty much cleared up and we went out one day and he was gone. Suspect he may have been a pet once or maybe he just realised he needed help.

Your mention of your injured Wombat reminds me that I was worried he might hurt himself Josh.
Balanced on the Plasterboard , it looked awkward and we thought it could lose its footing and fall about 8 feet to concrete floor - we actually got some cushions and laid them on ground in case.

glad to hear it worked out
- but just a word of warning to people thinking they can help an animal
usually they will be scared and defensive, most animals can inflict wounds
something like a koala is imensly strong with claws like mini sycles
i had a close call with one trying to administer eye ointment at an animal park
usually your best intentions will be lost on a wild animal

get outmore.. we've had numerous animals over the years. A koala with a cold, orphaned possum,
grey kangaroo, abandoned fox pup, so the wombat was in good hands. Yes I've been bitten or scratched a few times but better than the other option for the animal. We had a
grey kangaroo joey that used to curl up on my knee and watch TV with me. If I left him alone he would panick and sniff the ground and follow my scent.
Following is a link to a video we took of a koala drinking from the
Murray river, he was very thirsty and drank for about an hour. Didn't mind us being there.

good stuff
youve obviosly got experience but was just warning those without that alot of injured animals will defend themselves very vigoursly because they cant escape
despite them needing help doesnt often mean they will allow it
and care and precautions need to be taken as even harmless looking animlas can draw painfull blood

Thanks steve,
It was interesting to watch as we had been to many wildlife parks that said a koala will never drink from water as they get their water from the leaves. He was not worried
about us at all.

Thats very funny Rockape and Robin your escapades are truly entertaining. I figured when you were asking for advice, the question couldn't have been related to engineering? LOL How much can a Koala bear..?

Ha Ha , I guessed I was leaving myself open for that one RA - where that property is is surrounded by bush , no dogs but often I see Koalas walking across the ground to reach another tree , so who knows , maybe as Terra implies he was checking out my renovations for strucural strength.

Great photo - gotta love koalas - we have them in our
home area - they are obviously smart enough to prosper in the forest but around urban environments they struggle with their decision making - being zonked on eucy all day wouldn't help - that stuff removes paint !

hi robin
well to have a visit from such a greal aussie you should feel very previlliged
but you should also be very greatful that he didn't climb all over your precious and much loved patrols
as you would be in need of a big expensive paint job had this have taken place
( there scratches are a lot worst than chooks )
so the fact he chose to leave without any ----bear-graffeety----- marks is a pure blessing on his part
cheers

That was good spotting Barry - yes its an old wood heater we got from a house renovation and it really does the job , as we have
well over a thousand tons of naturaly fallen timber , so much it rots before you can burn it.

You never know where you are going to find these cuddly creatures, we found this on in the Lone Gum on the
Simpson Desert in 2008.
