Hi Phil

Our steps do tax my knees a little, but the slide in fold up steps do the job without any other stools or steps needed. As ours are front side of the wheels, they do not get damaged on the really steep dips as has happened in some of the longer vans with steps behind the axles. For that reason, some have opted for removable steps. I have a small step ladder for the F250 though :O (Well, it is easier for getting in and out of the back when camping out)

thanks for the reply, after bending the pull out step twice on unsighted rocks i was hoping to purchase removable steps but may have to fabricate something myself.

Hi Phil. We also have the plastic one of the same height, and have the same problem, I think the brand is Fiamma. I saw a metal one today at the Sydney show,it was 180mm high and had a U shaped metal leg each end that folded under and made a flat package. Looked quite good but I was in a hurry so left it. I think the vendor was Amazon but didn't get a price either. Cheers,Bob

Try one of these, the long scissor type work well.

hi we had the same problem but looking around a caravan park found a solution, an aerobic step, they are strong, very stable and wider than those fold out type of step and can be adjusted to different heights and are cheap as long as you don't get them from sports stores as they are a lot dearer there, K Mart, Big W, and ebay have them.

Have you thought of screwing a small piece of timber to each corner of the fiamma step to adjust the height.

G'day white pointer, I have attached some photos of the step I built which stores inside the van door in the step well. It also has storage for ropes and pegs for awning, de-flappers, clothes line etc, and boots.
Works well for us.
