Hi all,
I am currently travelling and I am contemplating towing my van not an off roader from Mt Isa up to Normanton and Karumba and then back via the savannah way to Mt Surprise.
I am lead to believe that the road's are bitumen, my question is:
Is the route single lane bitumen or normal double lane bitumen.
I look forward to your replies.
Thanks,

Matt

Matt did that trip last year from Sydney to Mt Isa up to Karumba(nice spot) go to the sunset taverncold beer nice sunset Make sure at Karumba you do the sunset cruise on the ferryman. Then we went across Savannah Way stayed Mt Surpise and the road was single lane bitumen but was ok ,Some drivers would not share the bitumen but most put half on the dirt and slow down enjoy your trip.

Consider doing the sunset cruise at Normanton, we did both this and the one at Karumba, the Normanton one was tops.

Also as your going past one of the best places in QLD to visit, if you've not been to Lawn Hill put it on your list. Dirt road from Gregory Downs so you can leave van there if you don't want to take it over little bit of dirt and hire tent/cabin at Adels Grove...well worth a couple of days min.

Matt,
go to Cloncurry then up to Normanton and on to Karumba. All these roads are good and across to Mt Surprise is good also. 2 lanes all the way. You are in Queensland where we don't drive to the conditions, we just drive to the potholes and fall in.

Have a good one,
RA
