Gibb River Road this week.

Looking to travel the Gibb River Road from friday this week. Can anyone who has been through since it has opened give me an idea of what to expect? We are hoping to go to the main gorges along the way but hear that many are still inaccessable. Been keeping an eye on the WA main Rds site. Does the Durack or Penticost crossing pose any issues at the moment?

becknjames.....do us all a favour, and update this forum when you get to the other end of the GRR. So many people ask on here, but don't respond with an update.

Have a good trip across & enjoy.

Just finished the Gibb. No worries with quite a good run. River crossings were no troubles although some reports of issues with large rocks in the penticost crossing. The camper trailer followed with no troubles and no issues with tyres. A number of side roads were closed although a number were on the verge of opening very soon.

Very good point John - as per recent reports that due to weight restrictions, they cannot get the fuel trucks in.

Just heard on local radio that Kalumburu road will not open past Theda Station until next year! To much damage. Main roads did not mention rest of Gibb.
Cheers Heather

Geoff

Main Roads dont give updates for shire roads, so you have to contact the relevant shire for track info. A good example of this is the Kalumburu Road. This is a shire road so no info is shown on the main roads site.

This, of course makes it gard for people who do not know the area and ae unfamiliar with which roads are 'main' and which are not.

We are currently in Broome (you can check our travels at here on EOTrackMe. Be patient, it is a little slow to load, but good when it loads.

We were going to do the Gibb River Road last week, but heard that Bell Gorge was not open. We have since heard from the Camp Hosts for Bell Gorge (we spoke to them at Windjana Gorge) and they tell us Bell Gorge will open this Friday.

The Kalumburu Road is open to Drysdale Station, but is closed from there north. They dont expect the road to re-opened this year. So we cant get to Mitchell plateau. They are running flights for about $350 from Drysdale for people who want to fly over the falls.
