Old Andado Track

G'day all, I will be traveling up the Old Andado Track, leaving Canberra on the 6th July taking the kids upto ulluru and thought this might be an interesting way back down south. just wondering if there has been anyone that has travelled the route recently and can give track update? We are traveling solo in a 2010 prado 150 sereies with ironman suspension about to get fitted before we travel, with snorkel fitted.
thanks for any tips and hints

From NT road closures website...

Mt Dare Access Andado Between Santa Teresa Road (andado) and South Australian Border closed due to flooding.

Look at the ExOz roads conditions! The NT roads are very slow to update their website.

The Old Andado Track from Mt Dare to Old Andado has been graded & is open.

Hi Jeff

Usually I refer people to Dave's site. I just happened to be reading that one at the time & had just seen it. My mistake.

They didn't happen to grade you a new levy while there were in the area?

Dave,
I'm careful about promoting the Mt Dare website due to forum rules.

No, no work on the levy bank yet, hopfully we don't get any substantial rain until it is fixed.

Hi Rynoat

It is a great drive and allow a comfortable 2 days drive from the Alice to Mt Dare. Also while you are driving past, take the detour in to see the Mac Clark Reserve and the Waddy Trees.

We have driven it a good number of times and never get sick of the ever changing Scenery. The best way from Andado Station is to come down via Peebles and Mayfields Bores. The section before the border is unreal and you would not think that you are in the middle of Central Australia. If you go via New Crown, you will miss the best scenery. Check out the Trek Details that I did for EO a good number of years ago.

Your vehicle will have no problems at all proving that it is not wet.

Have a great trip.

Cheers

Stephen

ps I will upload some images tonight from another computer.

Hi Rynoat

I am now home from work and here are some images that you can expect to see starting from the Alice Springs end. Just follow the road out past the Air Port and in around 2 days you will be at Mt Dare and if you want a warm swim, head further down to Dalhousie.

Cheers

ryno,

Recently did Mt Dare to Old Andado up Binns Track and return with no dramas. You need to watch for the bypass around Mayfield Swamp as it's difficult to spot and you won't get through the swamp. There are a few decent washouts in the flat country so watch your speed. A detour has been cut to skirt some of the large waterholes around Old Andado. We didn't go any futher than Old Andado.
