Can anyone tell me if you think $229 for a brand new Etrex is too cheap?

Top price for a great little unit. I use
mine with an iPaq and Oziexplorer. Used it just yesterday on a trip to Mt Stirling (Vic). It's a good basic unit if that's what you're after.

This is a good basic GPS. I prefer it over the newer model Geko because you can actually see the readouts it if you mount on the dash board.
The one thing that I wish Garmin had put into this unit is beeper. If you program in a waypoint then when you approach a waypoint you can drive straight past it if you are not careful - A message comes on the screen saying that you are approaching a waypoint but you normally have youre eyes on the road looking for the turnoff.
Apart from that it's reliable and robust.

(PS: The manufactures make a fortune on the accessories. If you plan on entering waypoints in or connecting it to a PC/Laptop buy the cable unless you can make one yourself).
