Having been eaten alive when we did the big lap thought it might interest fellow caravaners.
Have heard about this before but have not tried it, has anyone else?

How to Kill Mosquitoes - NOT A JOKE

You may be aware of this, but I thought it was worth looking at again
How to Kill Mosquitos - NOT A JOKE
I can't wait to try this in the summer!

I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled?a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well.. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it....Pass it on.

OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS: I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors.
It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it
cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not
as expensive to use as the can of Bug-spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes.
So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood
door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window
frames, and even inside the dog house.

Bushy.

Bushy,

Sorry mate but that crap about the listerine has been doing the rounds for a year or two.

Bushman's works for us too. Available in 20% and 40% strengths of DEET.
Have tried the other "remedies" such as 50% baby oil and 50% detol but in the end the old bushman's has won the day.

Bushy,

The only proven repellents are products containing DEET or Picardin.

DEET is more effective for longer periods but there are some health issues with prolonged use. Picardin whilst not lasting as long does not have the health worries.

Hopefully this link works

www.bushman-repellent.com/pdf/army.pdf

It is the results, although somewhat technical, of a scientific test carried out in Qld.

Hey Pushy this DEET is it listed in ingredients, or is it an item on its own.
Pardon my lack of knowledge but I have not heard of it before.

It is an abbreviation for a chemical and last week when I was buying some I saw it written as:

Diethyl-meta-toluamide

Sorry but the guys who do all the proving, do it in labs or the front garden. Some of us venture out into the real world and with our open minds and healthy lungs, try things to see if they work. If they do, we go down that road. Not really a problem if guys think we are nuts. Makes it better really. Dare to be different !

On a different note but along the same vein as getting rid of pests, have anyone heard of killing cane toads with Dettol.

Apparently even a small amount in say a water pistol kills them dead better than a number 4 shovel can.

Cheers

Yes, Dettol works. In the 80's I was part of a team developing a cane toad spray using the main ingredient of Dettol, chloroxylenol. The plan was to call it "Toadex", but it never got past the Director (of DPI or equivalent body) at the time. It was deemed as "inhumane"!

Yeah, Dettol works well but not as quick as a star-picket or a shovel! Inhumane!! What are these 'greenies' on! How inhumane is it for the tens of thousands native insects/wildlife to die from toad poison. I'd much rather get rid of the cane-toads any way I can. It's a pity 'Toadex' didn't take off...we could use it in Qld and now the Kimberley too.

Mix equal parts Dettol and baby oil, shake and apply.
Wont deter flies, but it will stop the mossies.

Been using this for years, have a body shop small flip cap bottle in the car at all times.

Also a good hands wash, and wound cleaner, and helps dry skin.
