That's a rather open-ended q. George, and we were there last year, not this, so pls ignore what follows. But no one else has replied so ...
We flew over the Lake out of
Coober Pedy with Wrights Air and thoroughly enjoyed it. The route took in
the Painted Hills plus all the other terrain to and fro. We stopped at William Ck and had a coffee at the pub (Fairtrade even!).
The service was great,
the pilot knowledgeable and we had a great time.
The sky was a bit hazy and my pics came out kindof ordinary.
So, you can drive in as
well and get a ground view. The track was said to be rough at the time and in the Forester we weren't up for it.
HTH.

Yep..........4 times lately....................down the Kallakoopah once & down the
Warburton 3 times.
Very cold & windy in an open tinnie, I can tell you. Night temps around 5° and a morning wind chill factor estimated at about 10 °. warmest time of day is about 2.00 pm.
Marree is alive with tourism bustle, all clamouring to see the lake. Use Wright Air - best knowledge and good pilots. They are the acknowledged experts in the region.
The lake fills from south to north; plenty of
water still going in from the northern end.
Bird life is very scattered due to low numbers post 10 years of drought & also due to extensive areas in which to feed & breed. Come the normal drier times & the birds will concentrate back on the watercourses waterholes and semi permanent lakes.
Lots of native rats about, and mice. Some dunnarts observed also + heaps of dingoes and a few camels.
However, it is not easy to get to these remoter areas and I can't say from recent experience what you might see from Lake Eyre south observation spot on the
Oodnadatta Track or from Muloorina.
I reckon there may be a sailing regatta coming up soon. This would indeed be a sight to see! Visit
http://www.lakeeyreyc.com/Status/latest.html for more details.
Ring the Mungeranie hotel or the
Oasis Cafe in
Marree for other updates.
Cheers.
