I don't know if I upset the lady inside my Hema 5 but she wanted me to go a way to Camden. I live in Braidwood NSW, I wanted to go to an address in Camden which is about halfway between Goulburn and Sydney. I put the address in and then hit search and the Hema wanted me to go via Batemans Bay, through Wollongong to Sydney and then back out to Camden. I punched in the address twice with the same result. I rebooted but had the same result. I am fairly new to this sort of technology. Is this a fault or just one of those things.

Do you have the model with Route 66? street nav ? That app has been roundly bagged by many on forums here and there as being a poor performer. Hema now ship with iGo it seems - there would be a reason for that :-o).

Yes Route 66. I did ask if my unit could be updated to the latest system and was told it could not. Looks like I am stuck with the cranky lady. Might have to invest in something else for around towns.

Hi Richard

Like Darian has said, the Route 66 was not the best street navigation system around, but put the NH5 into Ozi mode when you are travelling in the out of the way places and you will not fault the unit.

Cheers

Yep - the serial numbers of units that can be updated to iGo are published on the Hema site - some are done for free, others cost. Mine doesn't qualify of course.
Re Route 66..... pathetic I know, but if you have an idea of the general area you are going, you can ignore feral directions that don't seem right, and it keeps rapidly recalculating the route - once you are getting closer, the directions become reliable (or did for me on a few tests). Anyway, as others have said - the bush mapping is the thing - great. We mostly use the Memory Map app in the bush.

I have the same problem Richard, I flew into Melbourne and was wanting to go from the airport to Albury...you would have thought Hema lady would have pointed me straight up the Hume Freeway........no. Kept telling me to go via Sale!!! Anyway I rarely use Route 66 and rely on the Ozi Explorer maps, even to the point of plotting a course. Fantastic unit for offroad applications and now even on road for me

Think of it as encouraging you to explore new places!

I've had the Route 66 application send me all sorts of places also. One thing you may want to try is going into Tools > Settings > Navigation and check some of these settings.

Have a play with the "Travel Mode" option and swap between "Shortest (car)" and "Fastest (car)". I think part of it's problem is understanding speed limits and thinking anything that's not a freeway, has a speed limit of 60 or something. "Shortest (car)" will help with this problem.

You can also change the "Car Type" to "Lorry" which is cool but most likely useless.

Hope this helps... Napalm

I have not tried lorry but tried the other. A very disappointing thing with Hema is they do not answer emails. I have spent $1000's on their maps both paper and DVD's and of course the GPS and a reversing camera. I have recommended their maps to a number of people and consider my self a good customer. Their after sales service is very poor if not non existent. I am heading off now to "ExplorOz" for 3 months and when I get back I will have to consider my position. I will if necessary lodge a complaint to the Dept of Consumer Affairs. Having read these and other posts on the forum I think I have a good case for a defective product. I fly RC helicopters and updates of software for battery chargers, ESC's and gyros are free and readily available and I cannot see that my Hema GPS shouldn't be the same.
