Hi all,

Just bought a new colorado, just wondering if anyone has attempted to put a dual battery under the bonnet, or has everyone been putting the second battery in the tray?
It looks like, with some serious moving of fuse box's etc one may fit but not sure if its worth the hassle.
Cheers
Andrew

The amount of trouble i had with my 100 series and the amount of money that was wasted on it, i could buy another colorado for spare parts so I'm sure it will be fine. The after sales dramas have already started our local dealer is #$#@ed, but I am just going to use another mechanic for issues and have got a letter from holdens so that warranty wont be an issue.
Thanks for the reply, just thought someone on here wouldve tried to do the second battery thing by now.

Andrew,

I was stuck in dubbo for 8 hrs as they didnt know how to fix my clutch you could smell my clutch from aaaages away in their words "your not broken down yeet.... call us when your broken down then we might fix it"

slave cylinder failed , 2 clutches, syncro and the worse thing that Holden did to me was block yes block my breathers im no longer allowed to go to that dealer as told by holden head office they have had a go at blaming everything oh its your TJM airtec snorkle or its your slight slightly bigger tyers even to this day 2nd gear crunching i feel its from the blocking of the breathers it was pushing oil and stuff where it wasnt ment to go

steer clear of holden

Shaneo86.....that's one person's experiences with one car. Bit of a generalisation mate. I've had two RA Rodeos (Colorado predecessors) and both served me well...totally faultless.

My experiences with the Holden dealers I went to were great. There's good and bad with every thing and from what I can tell, Colorado's and clutches are not a common problem.

If I suggested it may have been driver technique, you'd be up in arms, but you have no problems slagging off someone elses choice of vehicles or the brand name as a whole.

Facts not emotion please.

Fab.

Hi Shane
cheers for the post mate, will bear in mind problems with clutch, not sure what i can do but will probably not take it to our local holden dealer anyway have heard to many nightmare stories from mates.

All cars have there problems, and i have had my share, especially with second hand ones. So that is why i went new and the colarado seems to suit our needs and budget.

Hi Andrew,
My Nephew has a Colarado though it is a couple of years old now.
He has the dual cab ute, tub, with a canopy.. He put his second battery in the tub/tray and made a mounting area above the wheel arch. His battery is clamped to this. Works for him. This is a work ute and the floor area had to be kept clear for cargo.

We ran the cables from the main battery inside ribbed conduit and cable tied it to the chassi as we could not get the cables down inside the chassi. We tried to no avail. There are too many obstructions inside the chassi.

If yours is a tray you may prefer to put it in a box under the tray.
Hope this helps.

Cheers, Bruce.

Might also say that the nephew has not mentioned any problems with the colarado. He may have some, I have not heard. If there were problems of a serious nature I would have heard.
Cheers, Bruce.

Andrew,

No room under the bonnet of the diesel I have.

I installed a Sidewinder Flyer box in the tub with a 100Ah Remco AGM battery in it.
The Flyer come complete with all cabling and a built-in isolator to protect the primary battery.

I do however have an ARB canopy over the tub which gives added protection from the elements.

I thought I saw a kit for the v6?
Nothing for the diesel - I made drawers for the tub and incorporated a dual battery in that.

Thanks all for posts etc.

Today i mounted battery in ute tub next to fridge, have arranged it with a male and female plug to make it removable if i need the whole tub at a later time. Looks good i think, and now with a battery in camper aswell, we will have 3 batteries so will feel more secure!

If you are putting it in the tray, and I did on an RA Rodeo, have a look at sometthing like a Ctek DC-DC charger/isolator (D250 ??). There's a similar device by Redarc & I think ABR Sidewinder do one too.

Much better for charging the battery over a longer cable run like that than putting a simple isolator under the bonnet.

I've put one in my camper for our next trip.
