Hi Annette,

It's not hard. I just took one off my camper and changed it to a Vehicle Components DO35 which is a much better hitch.

I'd not had any trouble with the Hyland but they are fussy about tow ball height and you must use the right ball with them.

It depends whether your current hitch is welded on or bolted on. If it's welded on it's a bit bigger job, but either way most trailer places or general engineering places will do what you want.

If it's a bolt on hitch all you need to do is unbolt yours, redrill for the Hyland and bolt it on. I'd use new high tensile steel bolts and you just have to make sure with positioning that there's enough clearance from the A frame for the nuts.

One issue on our camper that I found with the Hyland (and it wasn't the hitches fault) was that the Hyland bolts on with 4 bolts and the front two were into flat plate out over the front of the A frame. This lead to stress fractures in the weld seam between the front of the A frame & the hitch bolt down plate. Six bolts would have ensured this didn't happen as it can't act as a lever pivoting off the back two bolts. I've since reinforced it and the DO35 runs six bolts anyway.

Some people rubbish the Hyland, no doubt someone will here. I had no trouble with it other than it being a bit fussy on two balls. Ours would have done easily 25000km and at least 5000-6000 off road.

They are a good hitch in that you can swap trailers easily, but in todays market have lots of competition and for the money I think there are better hitches available.

Hi,

Google "Oz Hitch", have one on our new proper 'off road' van, very easy to hitch up, especially on uneven ground, great product and reasonably priced.
