Hi All

On Wednesday 22nd June 2011, at 3.10pm the Cooper Ferry was put back into operation for the second time for 2011. The first two ferry operators were Brad McMahon and Clinton Hahesy. From this date and until 1.20pm on Tuesday 5th July, the Cooper Ferry has carried out the following:

Number of Vehicles ferried.................482

Number of passengers ferried.............1052

Number of Crossings..........................648

I have also been in contact with Brad's dad, Larry who was the first operator last year. Larry has told me that Brad has become a father while he was up on the ferry, and was counting down the days to see his new daughter... congratulations Brad from all at EO.

Thanks to Juanita from Transport SA for supplying the figures.

So until my next updates.....

Cheers to All

Stephen

Hi Dough Boy

Have a great time. You would have heard that even though the northern side is the better camping, you would be better to find a site on the southern side and away from the rats.

Cheers

Thanks Stephen
I had heard the same, to be on the southern side, but also heard that the mice & rats have made their way accross , just not in very big numbers
all I hope is that they havent learnt to climb ladders.I will then be happy in my roof top tent !

Cheers

Hi Stephen,
is it true there is a flat top truck that can take over length trailers across the ferry? Cheers Mick

Mick,

I believe it is Peter Ware from Cooper Discovery Cruises that provides this service.
Cost was $70 which is not unreasonable when you consider Peter is there to make a living any way he can and can't run the cruise while otherwise engaged.

Hi Michael

Just as Bill has stated, Peter is still there for oversize campers and trailers etc.

Cheers

Ok thanks, that helps with our planning as I believe it will be worth going out of our way to take a ride. Is there a contact no. for Peter? Cheers Mick

Bill, cost was $75 a couple of weeks ago.
Mick, he should be there when you arrive. It takes a while to load a trailer onto the back of his truck, and then wait in the queue for the 2 ferry trips to reunite your 4wd and trailer.

Hi all,
We crossed the Cooper on the ferry on Sunday 10th - what a ride! The crossing is faster than we anticipated, we calculated approximately 10 vehicles per hour in total, north & south. The couple in front of us in the queue were waiting for Peter to bring his truck over from the north to convey their trailer, they reported the cost to be $80.00. A fair charge I think to be able to travel further north, it is certainly a lot of work loading & unloading the trailers. Ferry operators were very friendly & helpful. So glad we got the chance to experience this!

Hi Noisy Mango

Great to hear you had a great time, it is one experience that all travellers should at least try to experience, as who knows when it will be put back into operation when the Cooper dries up again.

Cheers
