It's not a story, it's all true. Goodle it and you may not
camp there. Google it anyhow and still
camp there it will make for an interesting night. Cheers Mick

Hi Marg & Ray,
Many of the tracks through the Pilliga have deteriorated in the past few years after it was designated a "Closed Forest" and all logging, beekeeping and such were banned. you would still be able to get through on the Top Crossing road and access the Salt Caves and Pilliga
Bore and come out at Barradine.
There is some oil and mineral exploration going on so you might come accross them but they were mainly working in the X-Line Road area.

Hi Marg&Ray
The road from Coona to Pilliga via Bardine is blacktop to at least Baradine
(memory problems) at then to Puilliga through Kenebri and Gwabagar is mostly gravel / sand but easy drive if done to the conditions. From Pilliga to Wee Waa / Narrabri - mostly blacktop with some gravel between Pilliga - Wee Waa. Again easy drive if done to the conditiions. Pilliga
Bore Baths are quite close to Pilliga and the locals use them regularly
The
bore baths at
Burren Junction have better facilities but are usually quite busy during the winter months. Came past a couiple of weeks ago and there had to be 50 + vans etc at the
bore
Cheers

If you go Narrabri to Wee waa to Pilliga the road is sealed all the way and you will find the Pilliga
bore on your left about 2k from Pilliga.
There is a paddock of about 2 hectares next to the
bore that is a
camp area it has toilets (flushing) and a shower.
I have often camped there and it is a beaut spot.
The local pub is a good place for a few beers provided you have a designated driver.
Thoroughly recommend this
camp.

If you are coming up from the south then turn off the Newell at Gilgandra and go via Coonamble and you will find that it is sealed that way as
well.
This way via Coonamble will bring you out in Pilliga itself so just turn right and head towards Wee Waa for 2 k's.

We stayed at the Pilliga
Bore baths a couple of weeks back. We headed in from Coonamble direction at dusk- don't recommend it as there are hundreds of roos but the road is sealed. Then from Pilliga we took the road out to Wee Waa which is also sealed. No problem with either road, both in good condition.
The
bore baths are fantastic-
well worth a visit! The night we stayed was -3 degrees and a swim was a wonderful way to warm up :) We'd take firewood if we were to visit again. We think there were around 25 groups of people the night we stayed so it is a fairly popular spot, but there is heaps of room to
camp in the paddock and plenty of space to get away from everyone if sardines isn't your thing.
Hope you have a great trip!
