Hi folks:
My wife is an enthusiastic amateur painter/artist and is starting to paint a series of pictures related to the Aussie outback. Not the usual landscape, but outback items of interest.
She is wanting to paint a picture of a
well weathered old drover's hat but despite a long search around our
home area and on the Internet, such a photo eludes us. A drive over to
Daly Waters is a bit far for a
pic.
Does anyone know of a place where she could get such a picture, preferably royalty free, as she does not sell her paintings.
My apologies if this is considered off-topic, but it seems like a good place to ask.
Thanks in advance.
Jack

See if you can get a copy of the book of people in hats by "Shot by Jake"
He is a professional photographer has a book pf people in their hats, which he took at the
Tamworth Country Music festival. Some famous people, most just ordinary people and their hats.
Google "Shot by Jake" and contact him.
Alternatively contact Akubra in Kempsey

Hi Mark:
Yes, the Akubra tip is a very good idea. They must have a gallery of pics of hats that have long since departed : )
Thanks

Hi Jack,
If you live in country NSW then go to your nearest Cattle sale yard on sale day.
Sheep cockies would also wear a fairly good variety of old hats in various forms and stages of decay. I used to attend the local sales often and could see all forms of hats on some equally craggy faces. Of course a hat is all the better if it has a craggy face underneath it.
I have even owned and worn a hat in its latter stages of decay. These days I wear less expensive straw ones around the paddocks and keep the Acubra for best, mainly out of reverence for the brand, LOL.
If you don't live in country NSW then better still, go there as an excuse to get away from
home. These sale days are a bit of an eye opener for city people.
Just blow into town and ask at the local terrorist (tourist) info centre and they will tell you where it is and when the sale days are on. Along the coast here they are fortnightly with each town taking it week about so that there is a sale every week not too far away.
You will get bigger numbers and larger sales west of the range.
Cheers, Bruce
