Hi guys, you realise you're about to get a response from just about everyone who has done a similar trip........so I'll get mine in early.
We did the same as you in 2008 except we went south from Broome, popping into the Pilbara for awhile before hugging the coast all the way back to Melbourne.
Averaged 10.2 litres/100 in the diesel/gas lux, which towed our Kimberley Kamper over 22,000 klms in 5 months.
When corrected to include gas usage, average is about 11.5 litres/100 (diesel cost equiv).
Cheers,
Sheps

G,Day, Chris and Bj.
We have just taken of for our trip from Melb and on our way to Bourketown we have just hooked on our new Trakmaster 21ft Tanimi on a Toyota 200 Sahara and approx 210 km and are currently running at 25.2 LT per 100 km, this is going to cost a mint if this keeps. Up and also the different costs of Diesel as we travel up the Oonadata Track, but there are no pockets in a Shroud.
Regards " H " Vic.

G'day H, Those figures are close to the same as a Kenworth hauling 40+ ton..
perhaps you were a little enthusiastic with the loud pedal on the initial "get out of town" phase. A bit further out will translate to 50 cents a Km !!!!. Thats over $300
to drive the Ood. I suspect you may have already backed off...:)))))).
Enjoy your trip......oldbaz.

Thats the beauty (problem!) with the 200, dial up a decent speed and it will sit there comfortably, up and down any size hill when towing. Its only when you pull into the bowser that you realise what that has cost you!

The above fuel figures would be better if the typical speeds were quoted. I can get a huge improvement if I sit on 90km/hr compared to >100 km/hr.

Towing my 2T camper, I typically average 19-20 L/100kms sitting on 105km/hr. However, add in a bit of wind or hills and it will creep up to 22 l/100km. The worst I have had was 27 l/100kms on the Great Central Road where I encountered very muddy conditions (see my blog!), yet only averaged 50km/hr. But other sections on the GCR returned <20 L/100kms sitting on a typical 80km/hr.

Cheers

Captain

You are spot on Captain, I'm sure "H" will average better than 25L...if he wants or needs to. I remember our first trip away with the new second hand Jack & C/t..went
like hell to Balranald to find 20L/100 was being burned up...big shock..dropped to 90kmh & use dropped to 15L/100. Have stayed there ever since & happy with that
economy. I imagine the urge to boot a 200 is nearly overwhelming & to tootle along at 90 would border on boring. But I would be annoyed with 20L doing 80 kph. I can
get about 13.5L at that speed...less weight admitedly. cheers.....oldbaz.

I always thought one of the main benefits of being able to afford a 200 series was never having to worry about keeping records of of fuel usage? Just fill & drive ;-)
Cheers Craig ..........
