Im chasing further info on access to finke
gorge np. We are in a 120 series prado towing an onroad jayco hawk. All the guides say no trailers or vans. has anyone out there been in and what is the track like? I am aware conditions can change quickly in heavy rains. Cheers, David.

David, it's probably not relevant as it's been a couple of years since I went through and I don't tow. Whilst we had a good run through, I don't think I would be too comfortable towing anything because of the nature of the terrain. Definitely for high clearance 4WD. The only problem we had was occasional soft sand but not enough to cause us any grief. I must say though it is a stunning place and one of the nicest trips you can do in the centre.
I will be going through again in September this year from south to north weather permitting. I wouldn't attempt it if it looked like rain.

There's sections of river gravel - esp at the North end. Prepare for sand driving and let the tyres down and you might be o.k.. Better to travel with someone who can recover you.
In the main it's just a track though.

David Have recently been in and out of Finke
Gorge several times (last time a week ago) and know the track
well. It has a corrugated section, small river stones section, a couple of short sand sections and some shallow water crossings. Lots of camper trailers in there at
camp ground. As long as your van can handle the rough stuff you shoudn't'have a problem . lots of prados and much smaller vehicles in there.

David I was assuming that you are going into the
Palm Valley section of Finke
Gorge and that is what my comments were based on. If you are going into
Boggy Hole section I am not sure but believe it would be hard going for you.

David I haven't seen any dual wheel vans in there and I believe it would be hard going for him .
