Next Tuesday is Census night. So where will you be? Surely some of the EO family will be in enviable locations.
For those of you on the road and wondering what you are supposed to do, there is some specific info on the
Census site.
If you are heading out bush and need to pick up a form, travellers packs are available from a range of
popular locations.
Ah, I wonder how many of us will submit our locations as lat-long?

Hi RC.
Good Q. In our case somewhere along Googs Trk I hope. Leaving
Perth Fri and going the scenic route to Broken Hill/Mildura/
Bourke. Then to Alice via the Simmo. Then back to
Perth in 5 weeks time, via the Sandy Blight and other remoter trks.
Where will you be?
Cheers.

I have already done ours online and submitted it. I completed it and thought there would be a save/draft option but there wasn't so I hit submit cause I didn't want to do it all over again. Maybe I will get a wrap on the knuckles.

That is a good question. I wonder who will deliver the Census forms to all the homeless people that sleep around
Sydney and other Cities. I remember when I did the Census about five years ago. My instructions were to search out Hotels and Humpies but Homeless People were not on that list. How would the Census people find how many homeless people there are about The Sally;s and St Vincent always seem to know the number.

Hi esarby,
I know they are putting extra effort into finding the homeless this year. There are folk who's role is to work with the Vinnies, Sally's, and other groups to try to get as many as possible.

In my wife's area, (She works for Census), they have some very innovative programs to get the homeless people. I cannot give the details, but they are working. The homeless are coming out of the woodwork left right and centre to be counted.

John,
Don't be surprised when a Census person comes along when your at the '
free camp'at
Blackall as they seem to know about all the popular
places and make sure they are covered on Census night.
5 years ago we we camped on the banks of the
Gregory River near
Gregory Downs and expected to miss out but were surprised when a car came along that evening with a lady to hand us our Census form.
Cheers,
Chris

I'll have to do location as lat-long...and I have no idea where I'll be on census night. Our eight-year-old daughter might tell people that we are homeless, but our
home has been a caravan since January 2010... I don't see how that will fit a census form.

Hi Wayne
Fiona and I will stand out like the proverbial....We will be a Solo vehicle, Black Prado with Double
bright orange Kayak on the roof and the
orange EO sand flag. If the kayak is not on the roof, we will be paddling
Eyre Creek or
Lake Nappanerica.
Keep a look out and if we catch up, stop for a chat.
Cheers

Hi John,
The Cherokee will be in the garage on Census night, and I'll be in at work. I'll be watching the Census web servers and hoping they cope with the load. Some of us still have to work for a living, you know.
As I sit there I'll think of you guys and feel jealous. And promise myself to spend next Census somewhere as remote as I can possibly manage.

Where ever you may be on census night, do register on the census. You can complete the form on line at an earlier or later date if out of range on census night, or use forms available from road houses and the like.
Government policies are hard to cope with for those living on the road - they are geared to the fact that we all live in bricks and mortar unless we are drunks sleeping under a bridge.
Nomads - register your vote and make it clear you don't have a fixed
home to return to if that is the case.
Motherhen
Sadly in bricks and mortar at census time not in some lovely remote location in our wheeled
home away from
home.

My wife works for Census. Each person counted is worth thousands of dollars of funding per annum to go towards the community, eg Police, Hospitals, Schools, etc, etc. make sure that you are counted. If you are not counted, it is your community that is missing out.
Census are making sure that they count everyone. Even the out of the way accessible by 4WD or boat areas are covered in my wife's patch. There are also special programs for the homeless and different ethnic groups to get them counted as well.
Census is making a big push for on-line this time around.

so that all the lite fingered can now work out which houses are a likely target
most of you claim how securety minded you are
and then you blow it all in an instance

We missed the 2006 census on account we were somewhere in the
Great Sandy Desert
This year we may be somewhere up the coast north of
Cooktown. Who knows? Wonder if someone will find us?...LOL
